I know this is my first post so bear with me. I know things can get a little touchy on these boards and I'm not trying to say anything to start up things. However, I have viewed these boards since the Rustlers first came to our town. And it took me a couple years to figure out what a puckbunny was, and I always felt sorry for the girls that were called that but at the same time I know that they bring it upon themselves sometimes. Now, having said that. I personally know a couple girls who do hang out with these boys. Yes, they both dated a hockey player last year, and they hang out with the boys this year. It is possible for girls to be just friends with these boys. They became friends with some of the boys on the team last year that are on the team this year. And both of them are so terrified of being considered groupies. That's sad. They don't go after these boys because they are hockey players. They are genuinely friends with them. Now, don't get me wrong I have seen the other extreme that want hockey players just because they are hockey players. And that is sad. But I think it's also sad that people jump to conclusions about almost every girl that comes around these boys. Not every girl is looking to jump in bed with them. I have sons that play on teams in the wichita falls area and no other sport but this one do I hear about the girls all being referred to they way they are. I know there are going to be people that read this and disagree with me and I'm prepared for that. I'm not saying anything else but people it is possible for a guy and a girl to be friends. There are ways to spot the girls that are just friends and the girls that aren't. The girls that are there just to jump them will hang all over them and try to kiss on them all the time. Girls that are just friends typically just hang out (not on) with the guys. She is as you could say "just one of the guys". I'm sorry to have rambled on so much but I guess I could quote Forest Gump when I say "and that's all I have to say about that".

Actions of the Captain

I agree that it is very sad when that's all the girls are there for... to grab an up and coming hockey player... possibly a future star. But, as I originally stated... it does the guys good to know what to watch out for, as many are very naive when the come. They have been SO wrapped up in their sport that many are not developed in a social life. As a mom, I know I watch out for my kids and they will not behave in a demeaning manner, to themselves, or to me. My 'kids' are 25 and 17, and they know what respect means. I have also watched these young men learn alot from saying no, and not feeling guilty about 'hurting someone's feelings'. This is what I meant. I agree that many parents today have no clue what their daughters are up to, and that is the parents' fault... not these talented young hockey players... here for the love of the game. Right?

Let's face it folks-- groupies go with any sport. The thing with the hockey players down here in the south is that hockey is a relatively new phenomenon, so the players have an "exotic" aura. All of us remember the girls in school who would only go wih the football players, or the basketball players, etc. Same thing here. In talking with some of the Wildcat players, nearly all of the guys told me that the added attention from the fans took some getting used to. This is especially true of the guys who are still in high school or playing their first year of juniors. Where most of these guys come from, hockey players warrant no more attention than football players do here in Texas. Up there, EVERYBODY plays hockey, so it's nothing special. Then they come down here and suddenly have a celebrity status of sorts, and I remember being 17 and 18(barely, but I do remember back then). Any young man that age, being faced with a bevy of nubile young girls vying for his attention, would very likely be more than willing to oblige. Pointing fingers does no good, and one can only hope that nobody ends up making a life altering mistake. Very few folks that age have any real clue about consequences and the very real impact they can have on later life.

Hippie,

Couldn't agree with you more. Many teenagers think they are bullet proof and can't see past next week let alone next year. Unfortunately for these guts (and many of us mid-lifers as well) when Mr. Happy gets hard the brain gets soft.

I also agree with justplay for the most part, you can pick out a puckbunny from a 100 yards. They are the ones dressed for the beach or corner freezing their butts off in the arena.

Even the guys used to laugh at the lack of clothing they saw at games. Hey, but the girls think they look good! Rolling Eyes

Rolling EyesI wish they would actually come to watch the game. We have these girls that sit by my friends and I at every game, all they do is, "don't hurt my baby", "oh he is so hot", blah blah blah, and they have never even met the guys, it is sickening.

let's just get a few things straight-

1.) I am NOT a puck bunny nor do i wish to date any of those guys

2.) Kyle Kraemer did not turn me down

3.) I was just trying to display some very sad behavior. This person who calls themself a Wildcat fan acted in such a way it was a disgrace to the team and all its fans.

I don't appreciate being called a puck bunny or anything else i was called and trust me if I wanted Kyle Kraemer...I would have him

That sounds almost like a threat. Anyone else get a mental image of poor Kyle bound and gagged in the trunk of a chubby 16 year olds 1988 Camry?

Like I said before try paying attention to the game, and not the people watching it, if people want to make fools of themselves at a game it is not anyones business but theirs, and just because you cuss a little or drink a beer or two isn't what I call sad behavior, have you heard the coaches talk at the games, and if you hang out with them after the games, you will see that they have a beer or two, so you have no point, and you might as well just keep your mouth shut, and your thoughts to yourself.
