I know this is off subject but the three teams of Southern Minny, Albert Lea, and Northern Iowa ought to come up with some sort of bragging rights thing to see who the best team is out of the three in the area. Maybe come up with the I-35 trophy or something? Just a thought to really make a big rivalry!

Well Albert Lea no doubt about it.......We are gonna rock.

I threw that idea out to Dave already. I suggested trying to get Hy-Vee to sponsor it since there are Hy-Vees in all three cities. I can't think of anyone else that has businesses in all 3 cities, well other than Wells Fargo and fast food joints I suppose. The Northwoods League does something similar with having the I90 series with Rochester and LaCrosse and the I94 with St. Cloud and Alexandria. Yes, it is a good idea and corporate sponsorship behind it would be a revenue stream previously left untapped.

We would probably need to have a team in Owatonna first. Keep the dream alive.

With the playoffs nearing, I really miss our hockey team here in Owatonna. They were great guys! Too bad this area is just not populated by enough hockey fans and profitable enough to keep a team here. Good luck to the playoff teams.

It is quite unfortunate that with all the marketing and promotion the ownership groupS did, that it hasn't worked in Owatonna. Confused

The economy has a lot to do with it. Some local business's are laying off and the cost of food and gasoline has gone through the roof. This year is even worse. People are cutting back on everything. And with an average income of $40,000 per household, our city is not wealthy. Bottom line the cost of tickets would need to be cut in half to attract the fans they had over the past 3 years.

http://nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=478. So it'll be the Albert Lea Thunder. Not the most creative choice but at least there is a potential mascot coming out of the logo for the team. Looks like they are going with an Edmonton Oiler like color scheme. Good for them to get the team named and getting a logo out so they can start selling merchandise and getting the team and logo out in the community.

Best comment I've heard on the Thunder logo:

"Something tells me that a son of Odin shouldn't be missing any teeth."

Cody McCleod of the Colorado Avalanche didn't appear to need them.

From what I understand as of today we are still at a standstill here in Owatonnna, MN. Anybody have any "real" news when things will begin? Announcement? Tryouts? Website?

Haven't heard anything myself. Must be trying to keep things on the down low. Probably not a bad idea.

I hear your town group is currently trying to setup a non-profit corporation with the multiple investors. That is an interesting concept. Regards! Thumbs up

Go Thunder!
