Another intelligent post!!! Rolling Eyes
Good trade for Montreal. The get a good goalie in return and actually dump some salary. I am really surprised Abby doesn't get more playing time. He was pretty good last year. Just hope Abby can get used to that stupid chant they do in Montreal.

Yahoo article said that Theodore was INJURED (foot/ankle/leg...whatever) when they pulled the trade, but Pierre in CO said that he expected Theodore to be ready to play in April in time for the playoff run.

LaCroix knows the system too well to pull off a bone-head trade. There's something else to this deal that we're not seeing, I'm sure.

Avs DO suck! Go Stars!

Personally, I think the Hurricanes picking up Mark Recchi for Nick Nordgren, a minor leaguer and a 2007 draft pick is more interesting. I think Carolina came out waaaay on top of this one. I'm not too sure what the Pens were thinking.

IT will be a good trade for the Av's if Theodore regains his form from a couple of years ago.

That's really what it comes down to. I think Abby is a solid NHL goalie, but not near the level that Theodore was at a couple years ago.

I think Lecroix was probably thinking that if Theodore regains his form from a couple years ago - this is a great deal for the Avs. If he does not come around like they hoped, then guys like Budaj and Kolesnic are in the wings and can do just as good as Abby did.

I read an interview with the Aves head coach where he said theodore is going to be the next Roy. YEAH RIGHT!!!! IMHO the ave's made a HUGE mistake in letting Abby go. his off games were few & far between. i liken this to if the Flames were to trade Kipper. dumbass move if i ever heard one.

I just don't think the Avs really gave up all that much by losing Abby. I think he was a solid goalie, but was not spectacular. I know it is only 5 games since the trade, but Budaj is 3-2, including 2-2 on the road. Four of his five starts have come against Calgary (twice), Los Angeles and San Jose, who the Avs are figting for playoff spots with. Budaj has 2 shutouts and a 1 goal game in five starts.

Now, I don't think Budaj is going to be a hall of fame goalie either, but I think he will be just as good as Abby was in Colorado. So, I really don't think the Avs gave up much by trading away Abby. If Theodore turns out to be the nex Roy (I doubt it, but two years ago it certainly looked to be the case) then the Avs come out way ahead on the deal. If Theodore sucks, then the Avs can plug any number of goalies in to the spot that Abby was in.

I'm not bagging on Abby here, but I think he is only a solid #1 goalie, and there are quite a few solid #1 goalies floating around out there that can replace him. So why not take a shot at Theodore and see if he can return to his form from a couple years ago?

This series has proven what a solid trade this was. What the hell were the Avs thinking?

Actually Theo did not play that well. Dallas just played that bad. Just look at what Anaheim is doing to him now. Don't get me wrong I think he could do a lot of good but he hasn't shown me enough yet.

What makes anyone think Abeicher would be playing any better right now? Didn't he end up being the back up goalie on a team that got bounced in the first round of the playoffs?

Abby was a solid, but certainly not spectacular goalie. Theodore has played like a solid, but certainly not spectacular goalie. The only difference between the two is that Theodore has the potential to be a spectacular goalie, and Abby I think only has the potential to stay at the level he is currently at.

Without the trade, the Avs probably beat Dallas and lose to the Ducks. With the trade, the Avs beat Dallas and probably lose to the Ducks.

To compare this to the Thornton trade is the absolute definition of stupid. Abby was a solid goalie for the Avs, but far from irreplaceable.

I also have a hard time seeing how anyone can say that the Ducks series just shows how stupid the trade was. The Avs got shut out in their first two games. It makes no difference how well Theodore plays if the Avs can't score any goals. He gave up 4 goals in overtime yesterday, which again is pretty average, about what you would expect from Abby as well.

How do you give up 4 goals in overtime?

Do you mean he gave up 3 goals in the first 3 periods and LOST by giving up the OT GOAL.
