Doesn't appear to be many returning players - Wickman, Gorczyca (sat out Sunday), Hamburg (and his little brother). Travis White is listed on the roster, but he was just walking around in street clothes.

There were 4 teams of 19 kids and 10 goalies there. There were a couple that played a game or two w. the Bandits last year: Blake O'Conner (got traded to Texas for Miller and Hamburg early last year), Tyler Moor (there was a TJ Moor on the Bandits roster for a couple games so I'm assuming its the same guy), Chris Hutton, Jeff Larson. THere were several STL Jr. Blues: Todd Hoeferlin, Andrew Kurlandski, Michael Daniels, Paul Zuke (Matt's little bro/Mike's kid), Jack Berger, JP Burkemper, Andrew Clark and Zach Hamilton.

Got some players from the dead NAHL teams: Nate Allen, Adam Buegler and Justin Kirchevel from Fargo-Moorhead; Auggie Hoffman, Mike Cifelli, Scott Zacharias and Brian Sheehan from Texas Tornado.

Sorry don't have time to type out the whole list. Cuts were supposed to have been Monday, so I don't know who's left.

It sure was good to be out at the rink for a while over the weekend. Now back to the hospital (my oldest daughter had her baby 5:19 am yesterday, emergency c-sec, 7 lb 4 oz, 21" - if anyone's interested. Tomorrow will be the sad day, she's being given up for adoption and will go home w. her new parents then. At least we got to meet them and they seem like great people. I know they like baseball, but I requested they get her to hockey game or two sometime.) Sad

Daniels played a bit in WF last year. If I remember correctly, he was tendered by Southern Minnesota last year and cut, then came to our camp, made the team, but was cut a month or so into the season. 4 games, no points, -1, 6 PIM.

JDmom,

Congrats and condolences all in one sentence. My hat is off to you and your daughter for having the courage to make what must have been an agonizing decision.

I hope that Sheehan makes the team....will be nice to have another former (St. Louis) Jr Blues player back at home. I wonder if Scott Zacharias is related to a kid who was a goalie here for the Heartland Eagles

And JD, isnt Andy Hamburg one of our college bound players? I could be wrong

I was wondering about Scott Zacharias myself when I seen his name on the roster...

We had Mike Zacharias in goal here at Topeka for the 02-03 season...

Not a common name...could be related...cousins maybe?

I Echo everyone's sentiments.

I sorta root for Kircheval to a degree. Part of me says screw him if he was "home sick" here, St Louis isn't going to be much better for him. But who knows how much of that 'home sickness' was the area and not the organization.

Kid's got talent though

I thought Andrew got drafted by one of the USHL teams so I was surprised to see him here. Maybe he just liked it here and wants to play w. his bro (assuming he made the team).

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. My daughter came home from the hospital yesterday and we had to say g-bye to Anna. It was a tough day. It's an open adoption so we'll get letters and pictures. My daughter did exchange e-mail addesses w. the adoptive parents, so maybe we'll meet again some day.

Andrew was drafted by Lincoln and had a great showing at their camp. His brother actually made the 30 man roster in Indiana.

So why where they even here? As a fallback plan? I've only been following the NAHL for 2 seasons, but i'm gettin tired of hearing about how much better the USHL is. I don't know how this year's Bandits team will shape up, but I would have loved to have seen either of the last two year's teams take on any of the USHL teams. Who's in charge of setting up the exhibition schedules? I want a NAHL vs. USHL game.

The problem there is finding a USHL team willing to risk a loss to a "lower" team. I believe that only the top level NAHL teams could be competitive on a night to night basis in the USHL.

As for why a player who has made the roster on a USHL team attending camp for a NAHL team, a lot of the players face a decision as to whether they want to be a 4th liner in the U or a 1st or 2nd liner in the NA. Ice time goes hand in hand with that. If the player is a 20 year old, then the decision becomes more important. The USHL leans more toward the younger players, with not a lot of 20 year olds making the teams. They are there, but the roster spots are harder to come by.

Andrew and Anthony could want to play on the same team in St. Louis as opposed to against each other in the USHL.

And they are both goaltenders.

Why?

It's probably not often a player gets a chance to play along side his brother.

Hey, our Bandits were superior to all in the NAHL the last two years, but that doesn't mean they would have been able to do that in the USHL. In fact, a .500 record in the USHL probably would have been surprising, plus we had about a dozen 20 year olds on our squad and in the USHL they only allow 4. I think the fact that Coach Coop went to the USHL and several of the Bandits younger players went there as well should tell us all we need to know. Bandits won't be dominant this year, but still looking forward to it.

I don't think anyone is saying they would have been USHL Champs, but I would think the Bandits would have finished better than .500 in the USHL the last two years. Maybe not challenging for the top but certainly in the upper half. We will never know for sure but an interesting debate. Based upon the number of players moved on to colleges one has to beleive that those Bandits could play in the USHL.

Umm...actually 5 on 07 and 6 last year.

It tells me that Cooper got a better deal and because of his success was able to move up the coaching ladder. It also says to me that there were USHL caliber players on last years team. Whether or not the Bandits will be dominant this year is still left to be seen with only 4 returning players...but last years squad only had 5. Good luck to the Bandits!
