Oh, and I'm also drinking a big cup of Hazelnut Cream coffee and listening to Tom Barnard on the radio.

I'm excited as hell for the Wild vs. Avalanche tonight!!

Unfortunately, I am a Fanatic. I am also a Billet Parent. I enjoy the Junior game more than any form of Pro hockey. I enjoy the heart and effort these kids show night in and night out. We here in Topeka just got hockey back after a two year absense and we are determined to make it work here. I think we have the right Owner, Coach, Team, Office Staff and Fans. It has been a difficult road, but a labor of love and we have come a long way in making it happen.

I'm a little new to the junior hockey arena, so to speak.

Is a billet parent a parent whose child hockey player lives with a host family or a parent who hosts an out-of-town player?

Wow, that's really cool.

I have 3 boys in hockey (as of the start of next season), but the oldest will be becoming a Pee Wee.

;-)

WOW! We have 4 hockey players at home, but at the moment they are all under the age of 12. I can’t imagine the grocery list you must have! YIKES!

What area is your Minnesota boy from?

White Bear Lake. The food bill is enourmous but nothing compared to the milk and Gatorade they consume. But it's worth it to be able to help them while they are here. I would imagine it's a load off their Parents minds as well to know their sons are taken care of. It must be difficult as a Parent to let your child go to a strange town with and live with strangers. Our children are grown and have moved out so we had plenty of room for the boys to move in. My wife loves cooking so she is OK with having Kids in the house again.

LOL

How are you going to call the 4th one a hockey player?

Unless you're saying that simply by being born into your family, he becomes one, and then you just work on his skills and desire to play as he gets older.

*wink*

I totally agree with you as far as Jr.hockey is concerned. There is NOTHING like it. When I was “younger” I use to do the stats for the St.Paul Vulcan’s, then shortly after my brother started playing in Danville, and then collage hockey after that.

Hockey is such an emotional sport and when you watch someone play from the age of 4 it can take over your soul.

Now that I have my own little players, the feeling is even more overwhelming. You never want it to end; unfortunately it has to at some point.

Wow ok....never went back into a thread about 'Brandon Vossberg' again after commented all I had to say at the time. Didn't realize it went on to another topic. Hmm thread drift at its finest.

But yeah it took evil PMing me to realize this had actually grown and I searched out the thread.

Either way I responded back to you. End career probably not the best choice of words but there's really only two players I've ever felt hate for -- those being Joe, be it you or your friend, and John Pyrek -- who was a dirty player and that's a closed debate.

There was the hit Joe put on Mike Sgroi, who's face caught the part where the boards and glass meet. And it was fairly nasty the result and it spurred on the rivalry more.

Springfield and Danville are a fairly short drive, both teams were damn good in the hey day. Yeah, Danville Wings wins? I think you might be forgetting that Springfield was Robertson Cup champs in 1997 and 1996. Though yes, that 2000 Danville team that won it was a good club. But uhm if I remember correctly and hockeydb remembers correctly as well -- Springfield was first in the regular season in 1997 and 1998. Danville was fourth both years.

Let's face it Tony Curtale didn't help things either. We all know how he is.

Hell it's been like 10 years. I was 16 at the time, I'm slightly fuzzy on the hit now and probably, honestly, more was made out of it at the time than should have been. Even if it was one of those 'dirty' hits, freak accidents do happen to even the cleanest of players. Someone got hurt in this case.

But regardless, the next time in Danville -- I hope you do have a tape --because Joe did turtle. He went straight to the ice. Sorry but the memory isnt' fuzzy on that one because I was there in attendance, and I was there for that fight in particular.

I really don't wish him the worst and I fondly remember the Wings and wish they'd come back. It'd do the league and Springfield a lot of good to have them back. But yeah I root for Grument-Morris and smile when I see a former Wing on a college team or a minor-pro club. Always wished Charlie Daniels would have made it. Tappe also.

Knowing Joe better than anyone who has commented on this site, I must say that he always made an impact everywhere he played. While he may not have always played the way fans thought was right or maybe even dirty in their minds, he did play the way the coaches instructed him to play. And yes he did turtle in the next game he played against Springfield. He was called into the coaches office before the game and instructed to do so "for the betterment of the team". He did not like this and felt embarrassed about it, but respected Warren Strelow so much that he would have fought the whole Springfield team if he asked him too. He played fearless and would have never backed down from anyone. In other words if you think he was scared you are sadly mistaken! Every coach that ever coached him from the time he was a little guy through all of his hockey said to him when it was time to play at a higher level, that he had been a pleasure to coach and truly the most coach able kid they had ever coached. Now I have a biased opinion about him because he is my son, but I do know him, and what he is made of, both then and now and am truly proud of him. He did what he was asked to do nothing more nothing less.

It's not what comes OUT of their mouths... but what goes IN them. Why do you think Prince George stinks? No one wants to play for them - all the players eventually figured out that "Cougars" had nothing to do with the composition of their booster club.
