As a RABID fan of the 'new' CHL from it's very first game (back in 1992), I must admit that I've seen more NAHL alumni make it to the NHL in the 3 years I've been following it than I can think of CHL players making it to the big show in the 14 years the CHL has been around. |
Now cyclo, you know better than to corner the minor league kool-aid drinkers with logic... it just makes them angry.
The whole high school/squirts/real men argument gets old in a hurry, because it's the only drum minor league fans can beat. Here's a reply I recently gave BarryvonPuck over on the CHL forum when he said... "Have fun watching the squirts and I will watch the real men play.":
| Quote: | Typical disingenuous statement.. how many junior league games have you been to? Oh wait, you are probably a (CHL) player, so let me ask you this: When you were playing in juniors, how many guys in your league made it to the NHL? How many in the CHL do you think right now have any real chance of making it to the NHL?
Give me the best 20-U hockey players in the world, and I'll give you a double-digit win over any team in the CHL. What age of kids do you think the NHL is drafting? They're taking 17-18 year olds, not 26 year olds.
You know what I really like about juniors? It's watching these kids grow. I know that the kids I see in September are the same kids in April in name only, because their skills have visibly improved. I've said this before - AA pro is about entertainment, juniors is about development. Nothing wrong with either, and I have nothing against AA guys out there playing for the love of the game. I've spent three seasons on the bus with teams, and I appreciate the day-in and day-out slogging through a season.
Again, it's a different taste. My leanings are towards potential... the unknown. If you're in the CHL, 90% of your playing history has already been written. |
I wrote that a week ago, and has seemingly become the final word in the thread, because neither Barry nor anyone else has stepped up since.
Rebuttals welcome.
Marc - would you like the 15 minute argument, or the full half hour?
