I think the most telling part of the video would have to be that Claytons body immediately goes limp when he gets hit.....now, I am not a doctor but I have played a few sports in my day and I sure dont remember anyone ever being instantly knocked out from a blow to the shoulder....an elbow or fist to his head, now that could cause a guy to be knocked out before he hits the ground or ice or whatever surface he is playing on. Sauter's comments are typical coming from him and Fleck should feel bad about it.....Clayton's comments about retirement trouble me somewhat....I only hope the league takes a long look at teh video and hands down just punishment.

Go look at some of Scott Stevens hits.....Some of those guys were out before they hit the ice....Eric Lindros.....Slava Kozlov....Ron Francis....If you hit someone and stop their bodies momentum the head continues to move forward as does the brain compressing into the front of the skull then rebounding to the back of the skull causing unconsciouness..All this occuring without a direct blow to the head....

What bullshit! Did Gretzky make a living with the NHL protecting him? NO! He had McSorley and MacClelland protecting him. And that was when hockey was tough.

If teams depend on the league to "protect" the players, the Flecks of each team will run rampant. You have to have someone that will make them pay before they leave the ice.

Let me add to that one thought. You also have to have someone that will make the Flecks of each team pay EVERY time they hit the ice, every game.

I did not actually hit him-ok not that hard anyway-ok it took some time for him to wake up-well really the paramedics woke him up.
Seriously though-did not "hit" him-used my shoulder for a clean hit.

And who determines who the marquee players are? Is it just the goal scorers-does every team have a marquee player? Does each team turn in a sheet telling the league who they are so they know which ones to protect? If they are protected by the league do they have free reign to hit other players? What if 2 marquee players fight each other-do they call time out and substitute someone else?

I dont know the circumstances behind these suspensions.....but Legault and Shmyr just got 5 games each. I dont remember seeing too many 5 game suspensions........does this maybe mean the league is in a pissy mood, and we can hope for a serious penalty on Fleck????

That's what most of us have said for several years.

ANY player has the right to expect a reasonable amount of protection. This would be no different if it was Murphy or Hansen. That type of conduct from any player should be delt with the same as if it was a 50 goal scorer or a 3rd line grinder.

Very true.Nobodies career is any less important or any more important then the next guy.

The difference being....Fleck doesn't go after Hansen or Murphy, it's always Duda or Clayton. I am sure the coach would want the same punishment for Fleck regardless of who it was, it just happen to be one of our best player, hints the comment.

it doesn't matter who the hit was applied to. If the hit was not clean the penalty should be the same. Clayton and Duda do not deserve any more protection from the league than any other player on this team or any other team. The team need to step up and provide some protection in the way of a true tough guy. The league however should make the same decision regardless of the player

Emotions are still running high from Tuesday night. So until the CHL announces their decision, we'll have to wait and see what Travis will do, What the coach will do and what our TEAM will do.

I wonder if they will still travel to OKC and play them on Saturday if the CHL doesn't suspend Fleck for the season??

Clayton wanting action
BY KOLLEN LONGThe Wichita Eagle

Thunder coach Mark French accused Oklahoma City of "goon" tactics and described Fleck's hit as "a severe blow to the head" and a "classless act."

"Are you kidding me?" Clayton said when told of Sauter's opinion. "That's a joke. I have no respect for that organization. They're a joke; Sauter is a joke. If the league doesn't take action, I'm gonna retire. I've got a family. I don't need this (expletive) anymore."
Asked what discipline for Fleck would be appropriate, Clayton said, "I think he should be done (for the season). The league says there's going to be a crackdown on blows to the head, and this was clearly a blow to the head. They're (the league) the bosses, but if I don't think it's the right thing, you might not see me in a Thunder uniform again."
