Cool article about Hartford Whalers on NBCSports.com
Hey Dudes,
I saw this great article on the Hartford Whalers. Whether you were a Whaler fan or just a pure Hockey fan this is an interesting read. Here's a sample of the article:
Still, the legacy of the Whalers is nothing to ignore with given the rise of the 'Canes, what with superstars like The Howe family, Bobby Hull, Paul Coffey and Ron Francis all at one time donning the green and white (and later blue) of Hartford. The franchise even boasted a catchy and long-remembered victory march called "Brass Bonanza."
The heritage that finally put the 'Canes' stamp on the hockey map in 2006-07 actually dates back to 1971, when the fledgling World Hockey Association awarded a franchise to businessmen Howard Baldwin, John Coburn, Godfrey Wood and William Barnes. At first, the New England Whalers played at Boston Arena, the old Boston Garden and the Big E Coliseum before re-locating to Hartford in 1974.
