Cup Attendance

Ok, last year folks were bitching about Nationals being held in Fairbanks and people not being able to attend. Well, now that it's in St. Louis we'll see how it goes.

So far, based on first day totals,

First round in Fairbanks total attendance (per Pointstreak) 2839
First round in St. Louis total attendance (per Poinstreak) 1494

Fairbanks roughly doubled St. Louis on first day, granted first day in St. Lou is wednesday compared to Thursday last year, but let's see how this shakes out as we go.

One major difference between the two is that the attendance from Fairbanks fans is much higher that the attendance of St.Louis fans throughout the year. This year the average attendance between the two is over 1,200 that's not much different that the numbers you posted. A good home fan base I'm sure helps with the attendance figures. I know that the number for Topeka will be increasing and should have a fairly good amount of people there for the game on Friday night.

I think the better argument last year was that more fans from visiting teams could not attend the tournament because it was held in Fairbanks.

I bet if you looked at the totals for visiting fans for this year and last year, you will find that the tournament being held in St. Louis this year makes it much easier for people to attend from out of town.

I'm not surprised at all that the overall attendance numbers are down this year.

Attendance last night wasn't impressive. Too much going on in St. Louis on a Wednesday night. I would guess around 1000 people there. However, talking to a parent who was in Fairbanks last year, he said only one D-1 school made it to Nationals last year. Last night I saw at least 7 D-1 schools there. So, scout attendance up, fan attendance down.

This parent really didn't look close enough then..... I personnely saw three in Fairbanks last year, and there probably was more.
