this was the motto we lived by in the USMC maybe that's why I'm so for the death penalty. not sure. but like CP said in the begining: An eye for an eye.

Move over roper I'll help throw the switch!!

Nice to see a good debate thread down here in the bowels of GR.

I'm with roper if there is a confession then there outta be a barbecue!!

none of this BS: I did it then when found guilty and sentenced to die whine and cry saying i didn't do it!

yes there is flaws in the law, flaws in Dna, but if found guilty by a jury of your peers then has they say in Texas:

Get A Rope

Confessions are not always a guarantee either. I have seen many cases were a confession turned out to be false. It is very rare, but improper police tactics can, and do, lead to false confessions.

My guess is that everyone in this country would be against the death penalty the second one of their friends or family members were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death. Think it couldn't happen? I bet the families and friends of all of those who were let off of death row after being proven innocent felt the same way and thought that it could never happen to their friend or family member either.

Who here would be willing to tell their own brother "Yeah, I know you didn't do it either. But you were convicted by a jury of your peers, so I think they should hang you in the middle of town. I guess we will just chalk this one up to the flaws in the system. Hope they prove you are innocent before they get the rope strung up." If you would not say that to your brother, why would you say that to anyone else's brother, father, son, etc?

I know you are but what am I?

Pro's and con's can go on forever and yes you are right Kev it would be different if was my family member that swear to not have done it and fry for it, most people would go broke trying to get it overturned.

But to turn the table, if your daughter was raped and killed by someone that was caught on tape at the mall taking her away, and confessed to the rape and killing of her, told where the remains are at do you think you would be ok with life in prison or would you want him to get the DP?

Like I said it goes on and on and I think everyones view changes slight due to which side of it you are on.

Again I am going to have to agree with Kev on this one. Roper if it was my Daughter, there wouldn't be a trial for him. There would be one for me though, for killing that bastard.

And that is different than the DP how?

Dead is still dead no matter how it got done.

So you are for it if it happen to one of your family members and against it otherwise?

Just asking.

I am saying I don't think I could control myself in that situation and under those circumstances. We love our Children dearly and I just don't think I could mentally handle it if someone hurt them.

Just curious, Kev what type of law do you practice? I didn't think you were a defense lawyer but you do sound like one. I agree with you it would be a tough decision to make for someone but until they lock up convicted murderers for life + 1 year I'm concerned they'll one day be free, unlike their victims. If that happens then crime really does pay.

ok Mc, say the above happened but before you could get your mits on the guy the cops got him. During the trial the jury was told to consider the DP. Instead they gave him twenty to life. Out in 15. And not only after 15 is he out walking the streets but does it again to someone elses family.

Still set against the death penalty? just curious.

Yes, Until they come up with a foolproof way to convict the guilty and there is no possible way an innocent person is put to death. If one innocent person is put to death is our justice system any better than the killer?
