question to ponder:

jc

let's say you are walking down the street anywhere (for this I'll just pick Phillipines) and you've been drinking. You are with a lady companion she is wearing a very nice necklace you bought (let's just say at the exchange) and two guys jump you coming out and alley between two bars.

Each has instead of guns, (for this example let's say butterfly knifes) they demand not only your wallet, her purse and the necklace you just bought what do you do? give it all to them count your losses or fight to protect yourself and whats yours?

what would I do (or to help you out) what did I do???

FOUGHT!!

one ran away one got gutted like a fish I got cut from base of pinky finger all the way to elbow on inside of left arm still tote the scar. Any regrets???

yes

feel bad for one gutted? no was proved just cause for self defense

regret other one got away and probably tried that shit again

o.k, stoner, i will play your little "i'm more macho than you" game. i was also in the marine corp, have been in plenty of 3rd world shitholes, fired every kind of weapon in that arsenal (and then some), killed people who were trying to killl me and had at least my fair share of fights, altercations and etc with all sorts of people; some tough, some not. when i was in the type of places you describe, i loved nothing more than a good fight and went out of my way to find them. now, i love nothing more than living out what little is left of my life in peace, quiet and hopefully in the presence of my loving family. to directly answer your question: at one time i would risk my life just for the excitment of doing it ("saving" my $ or property being mostly an excuse to do that). nowadays, i wouldn't risk my life or my chance for one more day with my grandkids for all the $ you could take from me.

i was walking down the street when a homeless man asked me for some change. he seemed threatening. should i:
1) use my karate skills to pre-empt his posssible attack,
2) give him some change,
3) say "get a job you fuckin' piece of shit.",
4) go on about my business

My Phillipines fight story ended up with the police and their billy clubs taking my half a bear bottle from me. A couple little brown guys pretty messed up, me with razor cuts all over my back and it costing me $800 to go home. That's 1979 dollars.

jc,

wasn't trying in no way to play the macho bullshit card. (like you said that shit was a very long time ago--when walked around like that) Just wanted to know what you would have done. Simple question...and a simple answer once you got to it. THANX.

Though we agree then -- Today I would still do what it took to protect my family from intruder in my home has long as I knew he didn't break in to borrow a cup of sugar.

Most incidents like that you can tell.....If wearing a ski mask and gloves yielding a weapon not very likely wanting sugar. (unless it's sugar from your daughter or wife)

and the second part aint worth responding to to satisfy your feeble minds. But will anyways. This didn't happen in subic bay nor Angeles city where I'm sure fred spent many a $5.00 for a date. She was a nice gal from a wealthy family in Manilla who I met while stationed there and working at the Palace.

(the bar girls around those two bases could be a thread of their own!) lol

if you say so. but, it was kind of an interesting choice of scenarios if you weren't.

yeah, me, too. fortunately, my family is not threatned by pi thugs stealing necklaces from pi girls nor by some goofy kid climbing thru a window and then trying to run away. come to think of it, neither is yours. hmmmmm.

stationed there and working at the Palace

i never got to work at a palace. damn! (hawaii was pretty nice, though)

very expensive. i was lucky, though. i had a friend whose girlfriend moved over there and rented a house in kaneohe and we knew a guy at one of the wakiki hotels who would usually let us sleep on the deck chairs behind the pool house if we were gone by 7am (sometimes difficult after a long night). partying in kaneohe cost almost nothing. i could only afford honolulu once a month.
