Well, not as "beautiful" as this classic jersey:

But I must admit, I do prefer the design of their original, vintage retro jersey over their current ones and the Halloween "V" style jerseys:

BUT -- I think these are the "hottest" jerseys in the NHL:

Actually, I think he might have been referring to the "old" man next them in the jacket.

And speaking of jerseys, has anyone seen this St. Louis Blues reject?

Or how about this LA Kings "Freaky Ass Burger King" jersey:

And last but not least, Anaheim's "Wild Wing" jersey:

Personally I like the Rangers 3rd jersey with the Lady Liberty head on it and the dark blue.

A buddy of mine wrote this on the history of the NHL's third jerseys a few months ago...

Procrastination! Yay!

So I decided when I was bored that rather than being productive, I'd look for every third jersey in the NHL and give my opinions and ratings of each on a scale of 1 to 10. So here goes, broken down by team.

ANAHEIM
1995-96 - "Wild Wing"
One of the original third jerseys, this one makes me want to claw my eyes out. The shade of green is terrible, the logo looks like something from a Saturday morning cartoon, and the letters and numbers on the back were impossible to read. If I could give this jersey a negative number for my rating, I would. That being said, I give it a 1.
1997-99 - "White w/ Bar"
Simple, more tasteful colors than in previous endeavors, and not too bad. I would call it classic, but you can't have a team wear teal and purple and call it classic. I'll give it a 7.
1997-98 - "Teal w/ Bar"
Just like its white counterpart, but in teal. And this makes it an eyesore. The design is simple, but the colors ruin it. I give it a 4.
2003-06 - "Black"
I'm usually not a fan of black jerseys. And this is no exception. However, I do like the fact that it has no goddamn teal in it. Black, white, purple. What does teal have to do with a DUCK anyway? Then again, I could ask the same about purple and black. I'll give it a 6.

ATLANTA
2003-06 - "Sky Blue"
I saw this jersey for the first time and just started laughing. It's that bad. However, props for not creating some kind of other logo to go with it. I call it a 4.

BOSTON
1995-06 - "Bear Head"
Bright yellow, strange extra patterns, and a bear's head. Why has this jersey been around since 1995 without someone complaining? I give it a 4.

BUFFALO
2000-06 - "Red Swords"
This jersey was good, but taken a bit too far. I like the logo, but the red is a bit much. Why not silver? Good, but they could have done better. 6.

CALGARY
1998-00, 2003-06 - "Black Horse"
A horse with flaming nostrils. It was made as one of their regular jerseys for a while, then switched back to a third. Thank God, as this thing should not be seen for 41 games a year. At least the colors are respectable. It's a 5.

CHICAGO
1996-06 - "Black"
This is the way a third jersey should be. Keep the design the same, just change the color to whatever one of your team's main colors isn't used as a jersey color. I give it a 9.

COLORADO
2001-06 - "Diagonal Colorado"
Ripping off the Rangers design-- shame, shame. Not a big fan of the burgundy without the white and bluw to highlight it. Score it a 4.

COLUMBUS
2003-06 - "Star and Flag"
Once again-- good concept, overdone. I like the logo and the fact that the colors weren't changed too much. But does it REALLY need all those stars on the sleeves? Call it a 5.

DALLAS
1997-99 - "Green Star"
This was another great design that became a regular jersey for the team. The green area even implies the shape of a star as a bonus. I give it a 10.
2003-06 - "Constellation"
What the hell is that thing on it? There are stars forming something that resembles a cross between a bull's head and the female reproductive system. In addition, the jersey is black-- black jerseys just don't work in hockey. The "Mooterus" jersey must go. I score it a 1.

EDMONTON
2001-06 - "Flying Oil"
At least that's what I'm guessing it is-- a flying oil drop with some kind of odd metal sled to carry it along. I prefer calling it the "Galactic Sperm" jersey. Navy blue is good, but a strange logo and odd looking numbers and letters drop it from having a good score. Another 6.

FLORIDA
1998-03 - "Navy"
Once again-- just take your ordinary jersey and put it in a color that fits in with your scheme. This is a team that did it right. I give it a 10.
2003-06 - "Red"
See above. This time, they just made the red regular jerseys into 3rds, and put the navy 3rds in as the regular. Well done-- 10.

LOS ANGELES
1995-96 - "King Head"
I find myself unable to speak when I see one of these. The king's head was a good idea that was poorly drawn. In addition, it shouldn't just be in the corner-- a hockey jersey logo is meant to take up the whole front. Numbers belong nowhere on the front. And the swoosh is too much. Another inaugural 3rd jersey, I give it a 2.
1999-02 - "Purple Crown"
Purple. Not a big fan of purple. I like black jerseys better than I like purple ones. But at least the logo on this jersey makes up for it. I'll go so far as to give it an 8.
2002-06 - "Purple Shield"
The Kings adopted their 3rd jersey logo as their regular logo, taking their formerly-regular logo of the shield and moving it to the third. The shield should just go. Keep the crown logo, but throw it on some other color jersey. I'd say silver, but then the crown just disappears. I dunno. I'll give it a 6.

MINNESOTA
2003-06 - "Round Logo"
Red, green, and khaki. This is hockey, not an L.L. Bean catalogue. They tried to make a new team with a new logo look classic. It doesn't work. I give it a 4.

MONTREAL
2005-06 - "Blue Stripe"
I like this. I'd even like to see an all-blue Habs jersey to go with the red and white ones. The blue stripe is good, but I wanna see more! It's a good start, so I'll give it a 9.

NASHVILLE
2001-06 - "Mustard Brown"
Good.
Lord.
No.
Babyshit is NOT an appropriate color for ANYTHING, much less a hockey jersey. I score it a 0. Yes, I know, I said 1 to 10. Fuck you.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS
2002-06 - "Orange and Blue"
The orange is just too much when paired with blue in a major way. Good concept, bad color. And I don't really like the numbers either. I call it a 6.

NEW YORK RANGERS
1996-98, 1999-06 - "Blue Liberty"
Very rarely do I like an alternate logo for a team, but this one was well done. Despite not staying with the same design or even a similar design, I will give this one a 9.
1998-99 - "White Liberty"
I liked it even better than the blue ones. This gets a 10.

OTTAWA
1997-99 - "Red w/ Swoosh"
I don't like the new logo. The original logo with the side-facing head is better than this 3/4 facing one. Use the old logo in red, and bam, this thing gets at least a 9. But nay-- I give it a 7.
2000-05 - "Black w/ Gold Bottom"
Same new logo, stuck on an old jersey design, with bigger numbers. I don't like it. It's a 5.

PHILADELPHIA
1997-01 - "Black"
Remember what I said about the Blackhawks and Panthers? Once again, this one was done right. It's a 10.
2002-06 - "Orange"
I hate the extra white bits, the outlined numbers, and the outlined letters. Why not being back the 1985-2000 orange ones? It's a 6.

PHOENIX
1998-03 - "Green Coyote Head"
Too goddamn busy!!! Cut the southwest scene off the bottom, don't pair orange with green, and don't have Picasso design your goddamn logos!!! I give it a 3.

PITTSBURGH
1995-98 - "Striped"
Another original 3rd jersey that became a regular for the team. The design was new, without pushing the envelope; it was flashy without being arrogant. I don't know what I just said there, so I'll just shut up now and give it a 10.
2000-02 - "Skating Penguin"
Classic logo with a new touch-- metallic gold. Once again, thie is a jersey that went from a 3rd to a regular. The stripes, triangles, bells, and whistles at the bottom and sides as well as the sleeves take away from it a bit, but otherwise it's good. I give it a 9.

ST. LOUIS
1997-98 - "White w/ Bars"
Lasted one season before being cast as the new home and away jersey. Simple design, it gets an 8.

SAN JOSE
1997-98 - "Teal w/ Arcs"
Another design that I liked and was made into the team's regular jersey. I hate teal, but they made it work with the black and white. Their original jersey design was trying too hard to go for a classic look. I like the change. I give it an 8.
2001-06 - "Black"
Like I said-- not a big fan of black jerseys in hockey. This one is just too much, especially when combined with black pants and socks. I say it's a 5.

TAMPA BAY
1996-99 - "Storm"
See Phoenix. TOO BUSY!!!!! It was a good looking jersey for the fans to wear, but not good to wear on the ice. Due to the "looks good for a fan" factor, I give it a 7.

TORONTO
1996-97 - "Old Classic"
Yeah, too much. the numbers looked weird, the logo itself was too wide. I could see cartoon characters or 1930's players in them, but no, not now. It's a 4.
1998-99 - "Classic Blue"
Not bad. Certainly an improvement from the previous attempt. This gets a 6.
2000-06 - "Classic White"
OK. They finally got it right. Classic, yet not a parody of itself. This gets an 8.

VANCOUVER
1995-97 - "Red and Black"
Good idea, bad colors. Red, yellow, and orange all together is just asking for someone to have a seizure. Liberace stood up in his grave and screamed when he saw these jerseys. Change the red to orange or yellow, and it's a good jersey. But they're still better than the V jerseys of the 70's. I give it a 4.
2001-06 - "Color Fade"
Dark red to dark blue. Individually, they're fine, but not together. Props for keeping the logo the same, props for using a different color, but major loss of points for the color fade rather than just a solid dark red. It's a 6.

WASHINGTON
1997-00 - "Black Dome"
Another good design-- incorporate a local landmark, that's good, people love that. However once again, the black jersey factor makes it lose a few points. I give it a 7.

Tune in next week, and I'll do it with EVERY NHL jersey, not just the thirds.

NOTE: He never followed it up, but I'll keep razzing him about it. He has plenty of time on his hands now to do so.

Shadow,

When you were rating the LA "Kings Head" jersey; I had visions of that freakin' Burger King guy on the front of a jersey. I'm LOL just thinking how funny that would be. Then they could have promotions where he gets out there and skates around. Commercials of him assisting Gretzky, and etc. Hey

Yes, I have to agree that that LA Kings 3rd jersey was pretty attrocious!
