(CSTV U-WIRE) MENOMONIE, Wisc. -- The University of Wisconsin-Stout's Jack Wolgemuth scored with just 15 seconds remaining in the game to give the Blue Devils the 4-3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory over Lake Forest Saturday afternoon in Lake Forest Ill.
The win helped UW-Stout to maintain its second place standing in the NCHA.
Lake Forest did not make it an easy win for the Blue Devils. The Foresters' Chris Wilson scored at 6:23 in the first period with assists by Matt Forsyth and Peter Morrision. UW-Stout countered with a Mike Kautz goal at 7:25; Kautz was assisted by BJ Garczynski.
"There were times in the third period when we were somewhat on our heels, but other than that I think that we outplayed them the rest of the game," said Wolgemuth.
The Blue Devils commanded the scoring in the second period as Scott Hellquist put it in on a power play goal at 1:40 with assists by Jeff DeFrancesca and Kyle Crable and Andrew Stearns scored at 11:08 on a Luke Schroeder assist.
Lake Forest was not about to be outdone, and the third period saw goals by Wilson and Kevin Russette, which tied things up. Wolgemuth scored just 30 seconds later with assists by Justin Huth and Stearns. Although Huth took the shot initially, the puck bounced back to Huth who forwarded it to Wolgemuth for the game winning goal.
"It was a big goal for the team and I am glad that I was part of it," said Wolgemuth.
UW-Stout goalie Matt Koenig recorded 32 saves, while Forester goalie Brandon Kohuch had 30 saves.
"Being in second place right now is a good spot for us, we have to play well this weekend and hopefully we may be able to reach first or be all alone in second," said Wolgemuth.
Congrats Jack!
Always fantastic to see one of our former players doing well, especially Jack as he was my six year olds favorite player of all time.
