I would love to give you some recaps starting with the new games in the new year. I love going on and on about how well the guys are playing and who stands out. I'll make sure to pay extra close attention for you!
All I can say about the recent games the Tornado have played is that their killer passing-game has resurfaced, and that is a major factor in their winning. If the Tornado have their passing game going, then they are tough to beat. It's when they can't seem to hit tape to tape and sap their own momentum that other teams are able to get a step on them.
Also-- their penalty killing has been right on lately. Just amaxing penalty killing. It really helps out the goalie and gives them the confidence they need to keep a winning attitude. It's hard to fight back when you go down early because of power play goals against.
Sellan has been in a real slump lately-- his timing and vision is off. He's been trying to set up other players too much, which I don't think the rest of the team expects. They expect him to get a shot on net when he carries the puck in (which he does often) but he hasn't been doing it lately.
King consistently tries this tricky passing move around defensemen when he carries the puck in he hasn't been able to cash-in on yet. It's a little too fancy for my taste, especially since he can't seem to get all the way around the defenseman to get it on net, but man I hope I'm there when he finally gets it. I see a lot of Tornado trying the same move over and over, and it's just a real gamble to see if the defense will make a mistake and they'll get one-on-one with the goalie. I will say it's a safe play most of the time because they're able to push the puck in behind the defense, so it doesn't lead to too many turnovers and oddman rushes the other way.
I've been really impressed with all of the new players-- they stand out in their own ways. Arcibal is scrappy for his way-small frame. The same can be said of Roadhouse, and if you know me and my obsession with the scrappy third/fourth liner type players, I really do appreciate their hustle and hardwork against the boards.
That's all I got right now-- I really need to keep studying for my chem final that's tonight instead of chatting on these boards...
ooo-- one more shameless plug for my favorite player-- Blatchford looks like Zubov on the blueline during powerplays! Quick feet, quick hands, vision, great passing, and when he shoots, they go all the way through most of the time, forcing the goalie to make a save and/or cough up a rebound. HOT!
