Yeah, sure thing Tom. 5,000 fans, a number they missed by well over 2,000. Thanks for the laugh.
B'caster73, you just proposed an idea that would have made things worse. To be winning b y such a lopsided score, then to put less than the allowable number of skaters on the ice would have been rubbing it in the other team's face. And THAT would have just made things worse.
Marc is right. You can't tell a team to stop scoring, but you sure as hell don't put just three players on the ice when you should have five. What you do, is you bench your top line. They sit and don't play any more. Your second, third and fourth lines play more. And I would play my second line all that much either. But, the players you do put on the ice, are told not to pull back. They play as hard as you'd expect them to in a close game. To go out and purposely refuse to score in disrectful to the opposing team, the spectators, the league and the game of hockey itself. What does everyone propose a team do? Dump the puck in from the center red line, then NOT chase after it, instead, just turning around, going back to their own zone and waiting for the other team?
BT, you can't just "throw in" the towel either. We're leading, we're gonna win, the other team can't possibly come back, so let's just go home. Yup. That's a good idea there too.
The power that be in Rogue Valley need to get off their collective asses and get out on the road and recruit some kids that can actually play the game. The really embaraasing things are finishing a blow out game with just 8 skaters and allowing now, as of this writing, 300 goals in 32 games, while only scoring 91. That indicates to me that management did an abysmal job of stocking their roster.
