First Tkachuk now Guerin? WTF? Are they just trying to win the prize for "Team Most Under the Cap"?

Seriously? John Davidson is a genius. The Blues were most likely not going to make the playoffs this year. Even if they squeaked in they realize that they are not good enough to win a seven game series. Instead they trade two UFA's to be in exchange for:
Ville Nieminen
Glen Metropolit
Jay Barriball (a prospect)
Two first round picks in 2007
A third round pick in 2007
A second round pick in 2008

On TSN tradecenter today they indicated that there is a belief that John Davidson has agreements with both players to resign them this summer. This is a similar situation with Doug Weight in StL last year, and Recchi in Pittsburg. They both went to Carolina, won their cup, and came back.

Why not get all those assets rather than hang on to both players for another month or two?

And this for Tkachuk.

Glen Metropolit, F
2007 first-round pick
2007 third-round pick
2008 second-round pick
*2008 first-round pick
(*-conditional if ATL re-signs Tkachuk)

Definetly genius move by Davidson like wicks said. The likely hood they're coming back is great. Especially after seeing that Andy Murray can coach this team and get them to win. Looking forward to them getting back to the playoffs next season.

*edit* didn't notice you put what they got for both players wicks. That's what I get for skimming over it. Cool

I agree totally with Wicks and Red... The Blues will be a force to be reckoned with in the not too distant future. Look at all those prospects and high draft picks!

I saw an interview with Tkachuk last night. One of the things he said that he was that he loved St. Louis and he was happy that they got all those assets him. Usually athletes say they love their former city but I don't think I have ever heard one say that they were excited about the players/picks traded for them. Perhaps he is excited because he is going back in the summer...

Wouldn't be surprised at all. Have you noticed that this not only happens in hockey, but other sports as well. St. Louis is easily the best Sports Town in America

I have never noticed that, but admittedly I do not follow other sports very closely. A writer for TSN.ca speculated that there might be an attempt to alter the rules in the next CBA, perhaps not allowing a traded player to resign with their previous team.
