Hockey: A Hstorical look

It is believed that the sport of hockey may have evolved from a game popular in the 1600's in Holland called Kolven. It is thought that the game spread to England where the term 'hoquet' was used for the sticks that they used in their game of swatting around a ball on a frozen field. The term 'hockey is believed to have evolved from that word. It is next believed that it entered Canada through the British soldiers stationed in Nova Scotia in the 1800's and then made its way to Montreal, where students started playing the game. In 1893 Lord Stanley donated the 'Stanley Cup' to be awarded to the champion each year of the NHL, as it still is today 112 years later. There definitely is a lot of history behind the sport that we know and love.

For someone with a PhD, you can't spell. Maybe you should go back to school. But, when you do, please don't let us know about it.

Thanks, now go away.

For a doctorate in sociology the emphasis is not placed on correct spelling of anything except the name of the university on the check paying for the correspondence course.
