Homer Call Playoffs

See ya in the finals, Alex... (just as soon as Bob & Dan figure out that my call was for real).

So, if anyone wants to call/email The Ticket and verify that I really am/was the Texans' broadcaster, and that what I did wasn't just a bit, I would greatly appreciate it.

Marc, while that call is funny as hell, you are a pretty bad broadcaster if that is an example of your work. Hope you win, that is the best "Homer Call" of all time.

You should have been at the game... they set a record for non-calls by a ref (for both teams, as Trevor Converse will agree) and Dan Dolan getting whacked at center ice was the final straw for me... The box in San Antonio is right over the ice (moreso than at Blue Line), and I made sure the refs could hear me.

Wow!!! Marc do you get paid for your game calling?? That was the worse I heard in a while....

LOL... yeah... they left the blood (the prima facie evidence) on the ice... didn't bother to water it down or scrape it until several minutes later when someone with the Texans high-sticked a Diablo player in retaliation... by that point there was so much blood on the ice they needed a clean-up.

Tom Gribble called me a little while ago and wants to set up an interview today. I'm kinda busy and they might bump me anyway (they only have a 2-hour show today), so we're probably going to do it next week.

I'll be honest - I called a below-average game that night. Lemme explain something though... The officiating has seriously detriorated by this point and the frustration by everyone on both teams was evident. To put this in perspective, the officiating in San Antonio the next weekend was so poor the Diablos and Catahoulas cleared their benches and racked up something like 100+ games worth of total suspensions. Some folks have joked that they can only imagine what I would have said had I been there to call it.

But yeah, I sort of lost it. I know some will recognize this name... ever listen to Josh Pruce go ballistic?

marc, I understand what your saying. but I was the pa guy for the Wichita Thunder in the CHL for three years and have call games that were the refs let if get out of controll. Emotions running high or not it's your job to call the game the way you see it and not the way you think it should have gone. As a pa guy or a play by play guy you have to keep controll and be professinal at all times. that's all I'm saying I'm not bagging on you I was just poking some fun.

Hey that's fine... I get it... I'm not John Brooks or Chris Due. I listened to Brooksie for years when I lived up in OKC (and if you don't think he can't lose control, you should listen to the Tulsa Shoebottom Incident during the 1994 playoffs), while Chris and I go back a decade to the days of the Oklahoma Coyotes. I'm not like them, and I don't want to be.

I know my style isn't for everyone. Something to remember is this is juniors. I'm not bound by the restrictions and formatting of radio, and am free to do my own thing (no, I don't swear... though I came really close in that clip). Chances are I know and/or have met most of the folks listening to the game, cause 95% of the listeners are family members of the players on my team (or of the visiting team). Things are a lot less formal down here in juniors. The previous two years, when the audio stream was set up through a computer, I actually set up Trillian to run on the laptop so people using AIM, Yahoo, or MSN Messenger could drop a line during the game. We changed broadcast systems this year, so I'm not using a laptop (and the phone line is taken for the broadcast), and it's the one thing I really miss.

Now, if I were in the box doing PA, I'd most certainly keep a different aura around me. But when I've got the headset on, I'm still a fan and won't change who I am because there might be someone listening who doesn't like it.
