Dallas Loans Goalie to Iowa
DES MOINES, IA – Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Des Moines-based team has been loaned goalie Dan Ellis from the Dallas Stars. Iowa has also signed defenseman Derek Eastman to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) and released defenseman Tim Hambly and goalie Sebastien LaPlante from their PTO’s.
At the time of his recall, Ellis was in the midst of a five-game winning streak. In those five games, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has allowed just eight goals. Even more impressive was his streak in which he allowed just one goal in each game during the Stars three-in-three weekend from December 16-18. For the month of December, his totals reflect a 6-1 record, with a 1.96 Goals Against Average and a .943 Save Percentage. The one loss came in a 4-3 shootout loss to Milwaukee on December 6th. He did not play in Dallas’ 6-1 win in St. Louis last night.
Eastman joins Iowa from the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. The 25 year old blueliner has skated in 27 games for Columbia, notching one goal and 14 assists: 27(1/14/15). He was a member of the 2003-04 and 2004-05 Inferno team and prior to that played four seasons at St. Cloud State (WCHA) and the 1998-99 season with the Omaha Lancers (USHL).
A native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Hambly appeared in two games for Iowa, recording four penalty minutes. Prior to that, he appeared in 26 games for the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers this season. In those games, he has notched seven goals, eight assists and a ‘plus 14’ rating: 26(7/8/15)+14. Hambly was a member of the Waterloo Blackhawks (USHL) in 2000-01.
LaPlante, a member of the Wichita Thunder (CHL), was signed to a PTO as a result of Ellis’ late morning recall. He did not play in Iowa’s game last night.
