i actually enjoyed it as well as the hubby and kiddo. there are always things that could go better im sure, but i'd like to see half of you put on the same tournament. its not as easy at it looks im sure.

good job to the tournament staff.

Yeah, gee ya got me....WAAAAA!

Please.

I love it, I'm the bad guy for having higher standards.

This is great.

Anyways, Kim was very nice as were the others helping out.

But for me to simply state that the event was "First-Class" all the way and an absolute model for how it should be run would be error of judgement.

Take that for what you will, I'll be sure to point out the next time I see you offering an opinion that you are crying.

WAAAAA!

Apparently you don't apply it to your journalism. I've seen better writing in a 5th grade school rag. I mean a big city newspaper like the Capital Journal can only hire the best...right?

Were either of you there? If so give your comments not just pile on EZ Dave Streeter's. If not it sure sounds like you were and you owe Kim an appologie.

I'm also sure that Kim and the limited staff worked hard. Did the organization ask for any volunteers to assist her? Is there a booster club that could have helped? No event this big should be singlehandedly run by anyone. A first class event needs the coordination of the team staff, the arena staff, booster club, other hockey faithful as volunteers, and even the community. Again nothing against Kim, but she needed more help and it looks like no one was willing to assist her if she needed to handle it all by herself.

I was there and agree that it didn't seem like there was anything special going on there for the most part. I traveled there during the regular season and there wasn't much added during the tournament to make it feel like the special event that it was billed to be exept for the beer garden and to me that's not very special.

Last Gold Cup tournament I was at was a four team affair, played on a single sheet. Why would two sheets be needed now?

It's a national championship tournament. That automatically makes it not only a special event, but a huge extravaganza as well.

Are you now saying it shouldn't have been either?

Thanks Jr. Exactly. This is supposed to be the championship for the whole league with the best of the best at it. Should it then be a 1st class extravaganza. Plus St.Lou was on here after the Topeka/Fairbanks series ended saying that it was going to be 1st class at a real hockey arena not a rodeo barn. With all that he said it is easy to say that didn't happen. St.Louis is a hockey rink not arena. Topeka, Texas and Wichita Falls all have arenas not St.Louis. Also I would be saying the same thing if we had won it all. Winning or losing doesn't change the facility or services.

Bandits don't have a booster club. When they first came here Kim asked me if I was willing to start one and I had to decline since I work full time, go to school, have 2 kids (4 if you count hubby and the dog), and volunteer for a couple other organizations. I helped take tickets on Friday night at the tourney since they were swamped - we aren't used to that many people - thanks to everyone who came - and I had a great time talking to everyone. I've dropped some of my other stuff and am willing to work on a BC now. I sent Kim a message last week about what I would need to do to get started, but haven't heard back from her yet. I would be happy to hear from any of you STL supporters who want to help out or Booster Club people from other teams that could give me some ideas. I was a member of the BC when the MO River Otters (UHL) were here, but never was in charge of anything.

I think the first thing would be to try and find a group of people that are wanting to support the guys on the team and see meet with that group and the team to find out how to help. Also I know that Topeka and Texas have strong good clubs that would probably help with a few ideas on what they do for the guys if you were to ask. Talking about this is a good start. Good Luck.

Convention

We have discussed thepossibility of having a National booster cklub convention here in Topeka we wanted to get through the first year and see how it went.

We did that and are now working on ideas for this event.

The convention would include things such as

Family assistence ( how to help players families that are coming to town or just need to ask a question. ( Wehere should I stay , what resturants are good, where should I send my son to get his car worked on? stuff like that...

Fundraising

Annual events such as banquets and holiday gatherings.

Just to name a few.

If anyone is interested in such an event please PM me here.

I don't know that it needed to be a huge extravaganza, but as a championship tournament, it automatically is an event. Even at this level of the game, the marketing and publicity of it should be a little above the usual standard.

And this should not be falling on the local team, for whom I'm gaining a stronger feeling of sympathy. The League's championship is the League's responsibility. The marketing and publicity generated by it should benefit each team and make the League's goal of placing players in D-1 more viable.

I keep questioning the League's leadership and management style, and think their standards should be higher. AS I've said before somewhere, a league that has been around since 1975 should have had some of these things worked out a long time ago.

Nice response and I agree with a lot of what you say. I think the thing we all need to remember is that the event IS a Junior Hockey Championship. From what I understand; most of the teams that host the event are actually losing money on it. The complaints about having to prepay for t-shirts...if I am a business owner, I do the same thing. I am not goin to have a bunch of memorabilia made then have no one show up and I end up eating even more cost. Personally, I think the league has failed on many levels when it comes to things like this but again, it is JR HOCKEY. I mean what was expected...a freakin parade? Ever been to the Chowder Cup? One of the biggest Jr Hockey events in the country and they dont go overboard. I think the "Topeka Fan" expectation was way too high. I also think the "Topeka Fan" will learn that there truly is a difference between the CHL type fan and the NAHL type fan. If y'all are serious about hosting the Robertson Cup in 2 seasons, the fans (not all but you know who you are) may want to learn how to conduct themselves in a civil manner when others are watching. Peace...out. Jonlarz

JHC...I can't freakin type!

Not necessarily needed, but definitely preferable.

Plus the fact that the host team takes a big hit in the $$$ department, what with travel costs, staffing, ice costs, etc. Let's face it, WF hasn't necessarily been rolling in cash the last couple of seasons, and I wouldn't expect the owner(s) to fork out a wad of cash to host at this point. Granted, that really has nothing to do with a second sheet, just other reasons why WF probably won't be hosting the Robertson Cup anytime soon.
