Jones' hit on Bergeron

Anyone see this? Frankly I think it was dirtier than the Downie hit on McAmmond.

He had better get at LEAST ten games. From behind, left his feet, forearm to the back of the head. Hell, you're taught in mites not to hit if you can see the numbers.

The only difference I see there is that Volchenkov had a lot less time to alter his course of movement. Jones could have maintained his original trajectory and avoided the hit but instead made a slight change of direction, just enough to send himself squarely into Bergeron. Additionally, Booth turned more than Bergeron did. Bergeron had his back to Jones the whole time, Booth turned and was hit moments after turning away from Volchenkov.

I disagree. Penalty? Definitely. Major? Yes. Dirty? I don't really think so. He didn't leave his feet until he was already in contact with Bergeron. Watching at full speed, Jones didn't really have a lot of time to react. Yes, he did turn into Bergeron and he did hit from behind, but I don't believe there was evil intent.

Two games for a hit that could have caused a much worse injury than Steve Downie's hit. The only reason Downie get 20 is to railroad him to a career in the minor leagues.

This is the reason I'm constantly moving closer to completely abandoning the NHL.

Three nasty nasty hits this early into the season(actually only two in the regular season) and all by a Flyer. The Broad Street Bullies are back but not in a good way.

Nothing for Volchenkov, though with that hit, Booth did turn into it, leaving Volchenkov with little time to change his course of direction. On this one, Jones used his arms unnecessarily to send Bergeron into the boards.

I agree that 2 games seems a little lite, but I still maintain that there was no intent to injure. Perhaps therein lies the difference.

I don't think 2 games was enough either. Would have liked to seen about 5. I agree there was no intent to injure, and the player has no history of dirty play. I think that has to be taken into consideration.
