LEADING GOAL SCORER FROM 07-08 RETURNS TO BLAZERS LINEUP
The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forward D.J. Jelitto, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Jelitto a 6-3, 215-pound native of Park City, Utah, returns to the Blazers for a second season. His first in Oklahoma City was successful. He recorded 41 points (25-16-41) in 59 games while serving 72 penalty minutes. His 25 goals tied him for the team lead. Eleven of his 25 markers came on the power play, which was also tops on the squad.
The fourth-year pro played two seasons with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL before joining the Blazers. With the Grizzlies, he scored 43 points (22-21-43) and served 102 penalty minutes in 121 games. For his professional career, Jelitto has played in 180 games, scored 84 points (47-37-84) while serving 174 penalty minutes.
“D.J. was a pleasant surprise on our roster last season,” said Sauter. “We were able to snatch him from the ECHL and he ended up leading our team in goals. He is a big player who is big on his skates with a powerful stride. He knows how to use his size to his advantage, but I’d like to see him use his size even more. He has the potential to be an all star as well as a prototypical power forward in this league.”
Jelitto is the fourth player signed by the Blazers for the 08-09 season. He joins forward Jason Murfitt and defensemen Stacey Bauman and Justin Sawyer on the Blazers roster.
The Blazers 17th season of play commences October 17 at the Ford Center.
