Stars president Jim Lites couldn't believe the lack of acknowledgement by the Nashville Predators when Dallas forward Mike Modano tied and then broke the record for goals scored by an American-born player Saturday, according to a published report.

"Their owner, management, public relations people, coaching staff -- I think they all failed the game," Lites told the Dallas Morning News. "It's because of people like Mike Modano that they even have a team in Nashville. He has helped pioneer the game in the South, and for him to be treated like that in a milestone moment ... it's just a horrible thing."

Lites' disdain for the Nashville organization wasn't just limited to the events surrounding Modano's record.

"I understand it's a competitive situation, but we're also working together to sell the game," Lites told the paper. "They get more money from revenue sharing than any team in the league, they voted against the new schedule because they wanted to have an easier schedule for themselves. They take and take and take and take and never give back, and I'm sick of it."

Modano's two goals Saturday gave him 503 for his career, breaking Joe Mullen's record. Modano's accomplishment was never mentioned over the PA system at Nashville Arena.

First things first... did anyone from the Stars (or NHL) tell anyone from the Predators? Sorry, but you can't expect the Predators to be tracking everything.

they talk aboot selling the game - the only people watching NHL are the ones in the arenas.

Maybe the reason that no one acknowledged his milestone was because of the incident that happened moments before. Maybe they were still in a bit of shock and/or pissed off that Modano didn't receive atleast some sort of penalty for slashing Tutu the way he did. Granted, that slash was in retaliation for Tootoo's sucker punch on Robidas, but he should have received atleast a slashing call. Did the goal warrant more celebration and recognition? Ofcourse. I'm just saying that maybe they were a little pissed at the no penalty.

"Fair is fair ? ? I was in front of the play at this game. Dallas was tired and had less than 3 minutes to go in game. Tootoo hit clean against Madano with a solid and legal check. Robidas reacts back to Tootoo. Tootoo stands his ground. Modano then slashed Tootoo with full stick behind the head. Tootoo gets 4 min. in box, Robidas gets stretcher and Modano gets off clean and sweet.... Top player did win. If REF calls one penalty, then they all should be called. No one is an excpetion!! With a veteran player like Modano hitting Tootoo the way he did, he should be expecting some time off the ice also if it all comes to that. Sorry to see anyone get hurt, but picking on one and not another is not cutting it."

Its funny because over on the stars board, we have been going around and around in circles with some predator fan trolls that have since infiltrated since the game.
No one denies that Mo should have gotten a slashing penalty.
(even though he swung his stick like a girl)
No one denies that tootoo's hit on mo was clean. It was.
The whole issue that has been the sticking point for stars fans is that if you watch robidas, there is no way in heck he was going "full speed".
There is also no way in heck you can honestly say that Tootoo was "defending" himself with that punch.
Robidas skates in.
Tootoo punches, glove on, knocking him out.
He could have moved, he could have turned to take the supposed upcoming hit on the side. He could have done many things, but the guy chose to punch.
It was uncalled for behaviour from a player that has a history of this kind of behaviour (hitting, biting, etc).

Well, justice has been done.

Stars should never have left Minnesota in the first place but that seems like a million years ago and I bleed Wild green.

But I always have liked Modano and he did deserve better.

From Prots blog on THN - I hate this guy but it is "relevent"...of course, he can't help but take a shot at Simon. Simon really messed up, but {rots taking shots at prior behavior - whatever.


A five-game ban for Jordin Tootoo certainly is better than the penalty that would’ve been leveled for a similar action five years ago. The real test, though, will come the next time the Preds agitator runs afoul of the league disciplinarian.

The NHL would be remiss in allowing Tootoo to follow the path of Chris Simon, who served nickel-and-dime suspensions for years before finally losing it in a majorly heinous way on Ryan Hollweg.

If he does anything remotely similar down the line, Tootoo’s subsequent suspension needs to be doubled, at minimum. The league cannot afford to have the same players making the same headlines for the same wrong reasons.

For the record, Mike Modano should’ve been suspended, too.
