In fact, if actual winnners were determined in the MV-St Lou game, and if Alex were to beat MV today, and if St Lou were to beat Topeka,......tie breakers would have been used to determine both, who gets the bye into the championship, and who's season is over. That would have been a far worse situation, that a tie in a round robin game.

I agree, that is the silver lining in all of this. The only possible tiebreaker situation could come if St. Louis loses and MV wins. Then both teams would end up 1-1-1 and tied for 2nd and 3rd. Not a major deal there, as I would imagine the only possible advantage to being 2nd instead of 3rd is getting to be named the home team for the semi-final game (not even sure if that is how that will be decided though).

It is kind of nice to know that no one is going to earn the bye, and no one is going to get sent home based upon a tiebreaker.

Actually, if St. Louis wins in OT, there will be a tie between them and Topeker. Tiebreaker would then go to St. Louis. So tiebreakers are still in force. Confused

Yeah, I think I was forgetting that teams still get one point for an overtime loss. I don't really have a problem with that tiebreaker though, at least it will be decided on head to head matchups, and if St. Louis wins, they deserve the bye.

So, will we get to see St. Louis pull the goalie with 1 minute left in overtime?

Nope, my Bandits won't let it get to that. They played better last night, look for them to be inspired to get the day off by winning tonight.

That was a good find. It took me a long time back in the fall just to find the Junior Rule Book. I still don't see how you found the
"JUNIOR RULES & REGULATIONS FOR INVITATIONAL, REGIONAL & NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS"
I'm looking at the entry website and can't see where you found a link.

After 9 Scotch and waters (hold the water please) and a cab ride home, it was easy. Go under the Junior section on the USA Hockey site, look under "FORMS". Plain as day. I probably could have found it sober. Laughing

Damn, that WAS easy.

I am going to try it in the morning and see if it is easy. Cool Wink

I tried this this morning, it was easy sober too. But the sound of my fingers hitting the keyboard sure isn't helping my head. Go Crazy

Getting named home team is important where line changes and faceoffs are concerned (makes a note to look up the stats on NHL faceoff win% for home vs. road).

I agree, it is important. However, it is pretty minor compared to having a tiebreaker decide whether you go home or not.

Lots of the guys bleached their hair - blonde/white/yellowish, then a few (warda and some others) added "Bandit" Blue which is why they turned out kinda green (my theory). I'll have blue hair spray-in stuff at the rink for the weekend if anyone wants to borrow some.

I'm glad y'all got the tie thing figured out for us. I agree, it should be good hockey since all the teams still have some control over their own destinies.

The rules are all spelled out very clearly, albeit a bit hard to find, but very clearly depending on the game.

It also states "playoffs" aren't we in the "playoffs" Either way come Sunday we will know who the winner is and all this won't matter....

Question for the rules experts.

Will any time ever be served for this penalty:

Overtime
St. Louis - Ben Miller - (Unsportsmanlike Conduct Misconduct), 10 min, 0:00

or will it just go away?

The penalty itself will definitely go away.

Also, it doesn't look like it was a Game Misconduct, so I doubt there will be any suspensions or anything. Sometimes those things change from what is posted on Pointstreak, but unless he got really out of hand at the end of that game, I would imagine he will not miss any time.

Sure, both teams would have 5 points. However, 2 regulation wins (and an OT loss) by Topeka should trump a regulation win and an OT win (and OT tie) by St Louis. Topeker should get the bye, in this case.

And again, this tie breaker is much more desirable than going to goals against, or goals for, or some other microscopic tie breaker.

Ties are fine in round robin play, and are used all the time in youth hockey tournaments. A tie in the semifinal and championship game is intolerable. Each of these games MUST be played to determine a winner, and I am sure they will.

Final 4 games should all be fun.

According to the rules governing this tournament, the first tie breaker is head to head results.

No, the playoffs were what they were in to get to the National Championships. I see them as two separate entities. However, the argument could be made that this isn't a true National Championship because it is only the NAHL. Thanks to whoever pointed out the reference to the Championship Game and NOT the ChampionSHIPS. I didn't have time to make that clarification earlier. I'm still going with St. Louis over Mahoning on Sunday.

Yah, a head-to-head tie breaker is probably better, rewarding the winner of the two in head to head competition. Regardless, it is most important that "the rules",.....are "the rules", whatever is documented.

One hour until game time. The winner gets at least one more game,......the loser is done.

The rule for Nationals is different than what is stated at every junior level, Tier III A, B, etc. In the round robin, they play one overtime and declare it a tie. So why would this be any different? Much ado about nothing if you ask me. All this pissing and moaning over conspiricy blah blah blah is a joke. St. Louis didn't make the rules, the NAHL establishes the rules. Tell me, who are the best two teams in the league? I say MV and St. Louis. St. Louis will beat Topeka today to get the bye into the championship and MV will beat Alexandria, then avenge the loss to Topeka on Saturday to play St. Louis on Sunday. As for the winner of that game? I'm gonna say St. Louis wins again.

When I'm right, I'm right!! Congratulations St. Louis on the repeat!
