Kev, per PS they played 5 min into overtime then just called the game a tie. Per the rules this can not happen. But as we have seen time and time again, this league changes the rules on a whim to help St. louis any way it can.

this doesn't seem to help st louis that much.. now all the RR need is a tie to get the #1 seed and a bye. i hate to disrupt a good conspiracy theory but as much as i dislike what happened it wasn't done to 'fix' things for the bandits.

With this Tie rather than a St. Louis loss they are only one point out. If St. Louis had lost then they would be 2 points out and Topeka would more than likely get to advance win or loss tomorrow, thought that would depend on if MV won in their game tomorrow and the amount of points scored. But this way it saved St. Louis a chance no mater what. Look I am not saying this is what happen and more than likely it is as Kev says but still looks wrong and hard to swallow when the rules are just changed on a whim.

So, are tomorrow's games be called ties if the scores are even at the end of regulation?

no because thats not wat happend tonite.

True, but why even bother playing any OT? I'm sorry, but I think this is bullshit. It wouldn't bother me so much if they had played a full 20:00, but they didn't even do that.

in a four team round robin tourney it's almost a given that tie breakers will determine the fate of most of the teams. nobody likes it, but of course as long as you keep winning you don't have to worry about it Wink

no arguement about that.. the rules should have been clearly stated beforehand and should have been followed consistently. As has been mentioned that doesn't seem to be a strong point of this league.

I would think so, but at this point, it wouldn't surprise me if the league decided to decide each game with a shootout.

I'm pissed because I think this reflects poorly on the league.

Ok, talked to one of the fans that was there and found out that it was annonced yesterday before the games were played that in case of a tie that the teams would play a 5 min sudden death. If after that time the game was still a tie then the tie would stand with a point issued to each team.

That being the case I can live with this scenario, even if I still don't like it.

Topeka has advanced no matter what. Alexandria sits at 0-2 and Topeka sits at 2-0. There is no way Topeka can finish 4th.

Topeka was probably going to have to beat St. Louis tomorrow to get the bye into Sunday's game, no matter what happened in this game tonight.

In a way, this probably helps Topeka if anything. If they can tie St. Louis tomorrow, they should lock up the #1 seed and get Saturday off.

I also seriously doubt the rules were changed on a whim this time. I am willing to bet the decision to end the games in a tie was decided well before the tournament ever started.

USA HOCKEY

The governing body of the NAHL and the USHL for that matter has a rule that says during post seasontournament play you will [play 20 min ot's until one team scores!

So I would agree with those who say keep playing therre is a rule inplace for this!

So why wasn't this announced before the Robertson Cup tourney started? Or was it and I missed it (and that is within the realm of possibility)?

I was told that it was announced at the rink at the start of the first game, but unless you were there you would not have any knowledge of it, as I did not till I talked to a fan that is there.

I am not confused.

National Tournament is under USA Hockey Junior Rules. Here is what their official guide for National Championships states:

I. Method of Determining the Champion
1. Competition

a. For Round Robin Competition
If two teams are tied at the end of a regulation game, each team shall be awarded one (1) point for the tie. The teams shall rest at their benches for a period of three (3) minutes, then continue to play a five (5) minute overtime period of sudden-victory competition. Teams shall not change ends. If no goal is scored, the game will be recorded as a tie. If a goal is scored, the winning team shall be awarded a bonus point for the victory, in an addition to the point already earned for the tie.

They were simply following the rules stated in the Junior Nationals Rule Book. Sometimes I wonder why so many get so upset over things they have no clue about. Question

That was a good find. It took me a long time back in the fall just to find the Junior Rule Book. I still don't see how you found the
"JUNIOR RULES & REGULATIONS FOR INVITATIONAL, REGIONAL & NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS"
I'm looking at http://www.usahockey.com/ and can't see where you found a link.

I've had a link to the junior book on my little site ever since I downloaded it.
