yeah, maybe it's an irrelevant comparison. sort of like the price of beer vs taxes. still, there might be something to the idea that those who benefit most from living in this great country should pay a greater share than those who have it tougher. i mean, the american system of gov't clearly helps some people way more than others (rich more than poor, white more than minorities, lawyers more than school teachers, christians more than muslims, whichever party is in office vs which one isn't, etc).

I already said I have no problem with paying more. My problem is how much more. I pay way more than the guy who makes, say 30k and am not some rich guy who doesn't miss the 25k uncle Sam gets from me. Now remember I am just talking about income tax now. Not the Social Security that I mentioned before. That I will never get back even the amount I paid in. If you believe the idea that anybody in this country doesn't pay enough, you are even more retarded than I thought.

as i said initially, i think we were paying about the right amount for being able to live in the greatest country in the world and getting the benefits we receive from that........until w started giving away $ to the rich folks, that is. the problem is that the gov't spends too much of the $ on really stupid and wasteful things (like unnecessary wars and contracts for politician's friends, among others). we definitely do not get the full value for what we pay. like i said, maybe the new guy can straighten things out.

or the new guy can make things worse like W. One thing to promise when on the trail trying to rake in votes. It's another thing to deliver when sitting in the oval office and spinning around in circles checking out the desk chair!

No fred that would be the Congress that does that. The President just takes blame or claim for it. Any spending cuts or Tax Increase or Decrease will have to come from there. The President only signs or Vetos those bills.

I'm just a little curious how many pork projects were added to the war funding bills by both Republicans and Democrats? Not just the last war funding bill, but all of them, hidden away so no one would see them? How many trillions of dollars have been spent on pet pork projects since the war started?

there's a little bit of hope, boys. the deficit was enormous when bill came to the white house and he managed to reduce it and give us a surplus. yes, he was hated and despised by many, but, despite the angst of the anti-clinton crowd and the many mistakes he made along the way, his adminstration and congress did give us many years of peace and prosperity. i'm not saying any of these guys is a bill clinton, but if the 2nd most hated presdient in recent memory can do so good, maybe-just maybe-one of these news guys can, too.
