Here are Merriam's stats against Fairbanks this year:
2/1/08 - Loss 5-4, 18 saves on 23 shots
2/9/08 - Win 6-1, 28 saves on 29 shots
2/10/08 - Win 2-1 SO, 35 saves on 36 shots (plus stopped 5 of 6 in shootout)
4/17/08 - Win 3-1, 20 saves on 21 shots
4/18/08 - Loss 3-1, 20 saves on 23 shots
Lets see how Reichard's stats compare against Topeka this year (according to Pointstreak):
2/1/08 - Win 5-4, 21 saves on 25 shots
2/2/08 - Loss 8-1, 23 saves on 28 shots (pulled after 34 minutes)
2/9/08 - Loss 6-1, 24 saves on 29 shots (pulled after 50 minutes)
2/10/08 - Loss 2-1 SO, 28 saves on 29 shots (stopped 4 of 6 in shootout)
4/17/08 - Loss 3-1, 27 saves on 30 shots
4/18/08 - Win 3-1, 23 saves on 24 shots
Merriam's stats against Fairbanks this year are 3-2-0, 2.16 GAA, .917 save percentage.
Reichard's stats against Topeka this year are 2-3-1, 3.65 GAA, .885 save percentage.
Reichard is an absolute top flight goalie, but Merriam has outplayed him by a wide margin when the two teams matched up this season.
Could Merriam have a bad streak? Sure he could. Every goalie can. However, Merriam has been extremely solid against Fairbanks this year, and has been nothing short of exceptional in the playoffs to this point.
You may very well see Fairbanks in St. Louis this year - but there is absolutely no basis for believing it will be because of Merriam's play.

Did the February schedule set up the down fall of March? More than likely, since the Wildcats only played one quality team in that stretch. But the coaches knew what lay ahead, and as coaches, should have been prepared, and had the team prepared.
Has the team been slacking off? Who knows, but as the coach, it is his job to not allow it, especially this time of year, when your team needs to be going North, not South, in the standings.
As the coach of a team that has led the South Division virtually all year, I would damn sure be playing NOT to lose. The coach and team can not control how good the other teams in the division are playing, but they damn sure can control how their team is playing.
A lot of discussion has been about one, who is to blame, and two, why the fans are so hard on whomever it is. If we are blaming anyone, the coaches should be the first. If a player or line is not performing well, then make some changes. If that does not work, make some more. The talent is obviously there in Wichita Falls, and it is the coaches job to do something with it. Why are they fans so hard on them? Why are they expecting so much? Well, one main reason comes to mind. It is the fans that pay to watch these kids play. It is the fans that buy the concessions, team gear and travel to watch on the road. They have the right to bitch, if they do not like what is happening on the ice.
Wichita Falls has histoically choked in the month of March. It was easy for me to see that. Hell, it is in black in white:
2005-2006 3-8 during the month of March
2006-2007 2-8 during the month of March
2007-2008 0-5 during the month of March
Why did the coaches not prepare for this? It is their job to prepare, isn't it?

As for them posting my record - here, I'll do it for you:
When I was about 14, me and one of my friends sprayed shaving cream on a car. The people thought we were using spray paint and called the cops. We ran back to my house and the cops never found us. When they found out it was just shaving cream, the people that owned the car told the cops not to worry about it and the search ended.
When I was 15, me and some friends thought it would be funny to push another guy's truck around the corner so he would think it was stolen. He came out, saw us, and we took off. Turns out he called the cops and they were looking for us for a while that night, gave up after an hour or so and nothing ever happened. I found out about the cop thing when one of the officers mentioned it to my dad at coffee the next morning, and he told me I should be more careful.
Several times between the ages of 14 and 18 I was checked by a game warden while hunting. Everything was perfectly fine and never received any citations or tickets.
When I was 18, I got a speeding ticket for going 71 in a 55. I had to do 32 hours of community service, and the ticket was dismissed. I was driving home on a small state highway about 12:30 at night and a Highway Patrolman who lives in the area stopped me on his way home for the night.
When I was 18, I got pulled over for going 65 in a 55. I was driving back to college after going home for the weekend. The officer gave me a verbal warning, asked me to put my seat belt on, and told me to have a good day.
When I was 18, I got pulled over by a Hazardous Materials Unit truck (I kid you not, in Colorado, those guys are part of the highway patrol). He said I passed him on a solid yellow line (which was kind of true, because it is tough to pass anything on Highway 50 in SE Colorado in a 1983 Ford Ranger with a 4 cylinder engine with no fuel injection before you run out of the passing lane). He gave me a verbal warning, was a prick about it, and off I went.
When I was about 27 or 28, I got a ticket for running a red light (not paying attention, went right through it). The ticket was amended to a non-moving violation, I paid the fine, and it is not on my record.
When I was 34, I made a left hand turn after the turn arrow had turned red, and got pulled over for it. The officer told me to be more careful next time and let me go with a verbal warning.
Whew! Now that every single incident between me and law enforcement in my entire life has been let out into the open, I can stop finally stop sucking up to everyone out of a fear that they will post my record on here.
