NHR---WHY????????????????????????
I was very upset today when I got the news that a former friend and co-worker was killed by a punk kid who wanted to show off a car. Tommy Ables was a Texas HS QB and overall good ole boy. Tommy was the kind of man that you liked automatically. He was a straight shooter who was not afraid to say what was on his mind. He used to work for Pepsi in Texarkana before running our bosses car lot.
Why? What in the world is wrong with these kids. The killer is 17 yrs old. Shot Tommy in cold blood just so that he could show off a BMW with 20 inch wheels. Yep, he got to be a big shot for about 12 hours...at what cost? He takes a life and ruins his own.
I am thankfull today for my family, for every breath I take. This reminds me that it could of been me...or it could have been you. I guess I would be just as upset if it did happen to you. Even you Pucked. I am thankfull for these kids we have in this league, I know just by the law af averages that there may be one or two bad seeds, but I have never even heard of a NAHL, USHL, or College Hockey player that has ever killed another in cold blood. We have had the occasional bar fights, line brawls, cheating wives, and overall pain in the asses, (Jobe?) but not this, not murder. I guess because we ALL kind of look out for each other. I bet even a Wildcats fan would be the 1st person to stop and help out a Nados fan if they saw they were in serious trouble. Heck, Hockey folks in general are just good people.
So go to bed tonite thankfull... for all those that love you, and for all those you love and put up with.
Heck, I love you all... and would hate to see anything like this happen to you or yours.
Stephen

Heres the story for ya Stephen:
| Quote: | Texarkana Gazette
Suspect Daniel Smith has waived extradition and is expected to return today to Miller County, where he is facing a capital murder charge in the death of Texarkana car salesman Tommy Ables.
Authorities say the 17-year-old Smith, who is from Waldo, Ark., could be prosecuted as an adult.
“(Prosecuting Smith as an adult) is a possibility. As a matter of fact, it is a probability based on his age and nature of the offense,” Miller County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Carlton Jones said Friday.
Smith was arrested Wednesday night at a relative’s house in Springhill, La., and is being charged with capitol murder in Arkansas.
A 16-year-old female suspect is being held in the Miller County Juvenile Detention Center on a capital murder charge.
Smith allegedly killed Ables late Tuesday while test driving a 2001 BMW Ables was trying to sell him. Ables left a Texarkana, Texas, automobile dealership with a potential buyer between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Tuesday and never returned.
Authorities say Ables’ body was found about 2:30 a.m. Thursday in a dry creek bed off County Road 117 in Miller County. He had been shot several times.
Smith has waived extradition in Louisiana and plans were being made Friday for him to be returned to Miller County, Jones said.
“It could be today (Friday) or it could be tomorrow (today)” Jones said.
Jones said if Smith is brought back to Texarkana today his court appearance will be Monday.
Smith also faces an unauthorized use of a vehicle charge in Texarkana, Texas, and a possible federal kidnapping charge.
Smith was taken into custody by the Springhill police about midnight Wednesday after Texarkana detectives received a tip from Waldo residents that he was at a relative’s home in Springhill.
Arkansas State Police Sgt. John Bishop said Friday the Ford Taurus Smith allegedly drove to Springhill has been impounded by the Springhill Police and was being processed by ASP Special Agent Hays McWhirter.
Police believe Smith and the 16-year-old female suspect arrived at the New Boston Road car dealership in Texarkana in the Taurus. Also, when Smith and Ables left the car lot in the BMW, the female suspect followed them in the Taurus.
The stolen BMW was found Thursday at the home of a Smith relative.
Investigators continued their interviews with juveniles in Waldo on Friday, but no additional arrests have been made, said Miller County Chief Deputy Toby Giles.
“There is nothing new we can talk about,” he said.
Bishop praised the cooperation between the many different agencies working the case. It is alleged that part of the crime—stealing the car and kidnapping the victim—happened in Texas. The victim is believed to have been shot in Arkansas and the suspect was apprehended in Louisiana.
“It’s a complex case with so many jurisdictions involved. All of the departments worked well,” Bishop said. “The Texarkana, Texas, detectives did a real good job putting the case together in order to make the arrests. They did a whole lot of foot work before we got involved. It takes team work and sometimes it’s not mentioned enough.”

I was wrong in saying this messed up the kids life...he messed up many lives. Tommy's daughter, his friends, co-workers, his family, the 16 yr old girl, her family, and anybody else I can't think of. From what I see, 3 states and the feds are all involved. It would be ugly if this had to be handled by the feds. Ofcoarse, it then would not be tried in Texarkana if that was the case. Tough case to sort out, but I hope the feds do not get it. Texas has the fastest track to death, so I hope it goes there.

Just completely sad all around. |
Life in the pen as the girlfriend to Billy, Bubba, Bo, Jim-Bob, Joe-Willie, and Big Pete would be much tougher on the killer than going to the chair. Frankly, I'd be pushing for that if I were in the same situation.
That being said, I send my condolences to Tommy's family and friends.
