Non GR Post Of The Year Nomination for 08/09
I'll go with my find from a Thunder fan from day one first....
"Just got the e-mail from the front office announcing deadline for reserving 08/09 season tickets. My first thought was "how much do I want to spend on something that could very well be a repeat of last year?" With the delay in getting rid of Presson and hiring a coach, we all know recruiting has to be difficullt. Usually at least a few players have been signed by now. We've held season tickets since the very beginning of Thunder hockey but usually have an inkling of who is going to be on the ice. Are they bringing back the same non-performing veterans we've had to endure for the last couple of years? Let's hope not! Another year of Duda, Clayton and Tetrault taking up space that could be used for some players who really WANT to win wouldn't really give me to urge to drop any money on season tickets. Then I wonder, "what is the real incentive for purchasing season tickets?" Like I said, we've held ST's every year -- with one exception. Two years ago we decided that instead of paying full price for the seats, we'd purchase the "cheap" tickets through a friend's employer. We never missed a game and sat in our regular seats every game of the season. The only drawback was having to purchase tickets at the office every 10 games or so. Not much of an inconvenience considering how much we saved. There has to someone in the office who can come up with a reason to buy ST's. We like hockey but could care less about going to parties with the players or adopting them to be our children. We just want to be able to buy tickets and see GOOD hockey. Maybe a HUGE discount for playoff tickets (if we're ever lucky enough to see the playoffs again) for season ticket holders?
I have no faith in the Thunder management. I've always heard you "can't mix business with pleasure" but it seems like that's been a real problem with the Thunder organization. You're in management and get too friendly with the players, it evidently makes it too tough for them to send a non-performer down the road. "
