Thanks Marc. Good info on the Vindy.com site.
The guy sounds like a fool.
You would think the "chairman of the junior council of USA Hockey" would be more interested in promoting Junior hockey than feeding his ego. But then that's just my humble opinion.

Doogie / Marc,

Quote:
I would suggest sending an honest, heartfelt message to him. If you bash or threaten him or send a profanity-laced tirade, you're not helping the league and it will only make things worse. Just express your support for the NAHL and junior hockey ACROSS THE COUNTRY because that's what this is REALLY about.

Quote:
I would like to echo doogie's concerns, though. Keep it honest and respectful.

Agree with you both 100% and that is exactly what I intend to do. If you start being obnoxious, profane etc. he won't get past the first few lines before he either deletes the message or calls everyone else in the office to see what an ass you are. They will all have a good laugh and go about their day.

Here is the e-mail I sent to David Tyler.

I urge the rest of you to do the same. I know that it is just symantics but these guys deserve the right to play for a National Championship.

Dear Mr. Tyler:

I am writing concerning an article “NAHL tournament looses national designation” by John Kovach on vindy.com.

Mr. Tyler, I must strongly object to the decision made by the USA Hockey Junior Council to force the NAHL to remove the “National” designation from their championship tournament.

The young men who will be playing in this tournament have made numerous sacrifices and dedicated themselves to work toward an opportunity to play for a National Championship. To take that opportunity away from them at this late date due to circumstances beyond their or the NAHL’s control is inexcusable.

The Mahoning Valley organization entered into a good faith agreement to use the Chevrolet Centre for the tournament. It is not the fault of the Mahoning Valley organization that Mr. Washington has reversed his position and will now exercise a contract clause to block the National Championship Tournament at the Chevrolet Centre.

A National Championship is won on the ice not in the stands. Frankly it would not matter if there were 15 or 1500 seats in the arena. It is the dedicated play of these young men that will determine the National Championship. This could well be the first and last opportunity for some of these players to be recognized as a National Champion. I find it extremely troubling that the USA Hockey Junior Council would allow the actions of Mr. Washington to deny these young men something that they have worked their entire lives to achieve.

I urge you and the Council to reconsider your decision and allow the NAHL to crown a rightful National Champion.

In addition to Dave Tyler, it was suggested that a copy to his boss Ron DeGregorio may also be helpfull.

Mr. DeGregorio's e-mail address is rond33@hotmail.com

This is bullshit, Herb Washington nor the chev centre ever entered into an a "good faith agreement" with Zoldan. The fact is, its just a typical bullshit lie tactic that Zoldan pulls in this town all the time. AS for the Nahl, after reading there articles, I've come to the conclusion that they are clueless too. Go be pissed at Zoldan hes the one that lied and then got caught, this is all his fault, thats why Youngstown wouldnt allow him to build his rink here, they know hes full of shit. He set up his rink in Boardman.............

Sorry, but that is exactly what Global Entertainment Company, manager of the Chevrolet Centre did.

Quote:
The Phantoms and the Chevrolet Centre came to terms on a lease agreement in January, which was subject to approval by Mr. Herbert Washington, owner of the Central Hockey League Youngstown Steelhounds. Only recently – in late February -- was the NAHL notified that Mr. Washington, along with the Global Entertainment Company (who operate the Central Hockey League and manage the Chevrolet Centre) would not permit the event to take place at the Chevrolet Centre.

Washington pulled the plug on the event at the Chevrolet Centre plain and simple.

Let's get the facts straight. Global DID come to terms with the Phantoms. Washington had nothing to do with the negotiations. It took THREE WEEKS after they came to terms, according to the Vindicator, before Washington finally decided to veto the agreement, citing his team's playoff chances...THREE WEEKS! Newspapers and TV all tried to reach 'the fastest man in baseball' for a comment over that time, but he didn't return calls. I can't count the number of times I heard or read the media's 'we left a message' or 'hasn't returned our calls.'

I side with his reasoning to turn it down, but I'm sure his lawyer came up with that one (another reason why it took three weeks). What was genuine was his three weeks of skirting away from everyone, waiting for his OK on the deal in the first place.

The next day after his first rejection, the Phantoms offered Herb a counter offer. He waited nearly another week before he publicly rejected it and whined about it on his website (again probably his lawyer's penmanship).

Steelhound, I don't see where Zoldan lied. But if you're going to stoop that low, then I invite you to sit with me and my family and watch better, more exciting hockey at a Phantoms game. At least they'll be playing past March 25, even if they weren't hosting Nationals. That's right, Tyler. NATIONALS!!!

I'm not going to get into a pissin match about better, more exciting hockey...I'm glad those kids are doing well and wish them luck in the tournament..The fact is Herb Washington said no,everyone has read his reasons, and Zoldan now has to host his tourney himself which lets face it the ice zone is inadequate at best. His teams avg. attendance is like 400 and the place is stated to hold 800. Well if this tourney brings in thousands of fans like Zoldan has stated then he needs to allow a owner with better and adequate facilities take the tourney. If he does not then we see where he stands on how he feels about the kids in the Nahl, his team, and there fans. The fact is it was a backdoor business deal, like hes done for years here, and someone finally called him on it........Get over it Bruce and do the right thing.....

I'm sorry. I've read Washington's response now three times, trying to see his point and reasoning and I just can't. I cannot get the word "bullshit" out of my head.

The way I see it is that he's the only one who can salvage this situation by allowing the tourney into the chevy centre and for the NAHL or USA Hockey or whoever to change whatever stupid rule that is about attendance with regard to the national championship tournament... One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

Washington has nothing to do with Zoldans team or the Nahl. Its there problem to take care of the tournament not Washingtons, plain and simple....

I find it amazing that the city floats Washington a $2 mill loan (according to the media) for start-up costs of the Steelhounds and then turn around and agree to a lease that gives him veto rights over any sporting event for one year and any hockey event for 10 years.

Either he has some great lawyers or the city's suck.

Not only does the city and management company allow Washington to be the gate keeper, but they are doing it at a time when the Chevrolet Center is some $150,000 or so in the RED year to date.

I can just hear the board meeting now.

Board Chairman: "We are loosing money, the Steelhounds season is nearly over what are we going to do?"

Washington: "I got it lets turn away paying customers."

Mayor: "Great idea Herb, surely the tax payers won't mind kicking in a few extra bucks to cover the loss."

Let's get the facts straight.
Steelhound, I don't see where Zoldan lied.

Yes lets indeed get the facts straight, Bruce Zoldan told the Nahl some 10-11 months ago that he secured the Chev centre for the tournament....LIE....

Then he told them(Nahl) he was waiting till the Chev Centre opened to negotiate the details.......LIE.......The chev opened in October yet Zoldan didnt approach till January.

Then after repeatedly trying to go around Washington to make a "deal" he finally approached Washington in Feb. 2006 even though he LIED and told The Nahl that he had these talks with Washington months ago...LIE.

The list goes on and on...the point being its Zoldan and the Nahl job to worry about their tournament not Washington who has no affilation to either..my take is poor business deal by Zoldan get over it and let the tourney go to a more responsible owner with proper facilities that will treat this tournament with the respect that Zoldan laked.
