I find it amazing that the city floats Washington a $2 mill loan (according to the media) for start-up costs of the Steelhounds and then turn around and agree to a lease that gives him veto rights over any sporting event for one year and any hockey event for 10 years.

Either he has some great lawyers or the city's suck.

Not only does the city and management company allow Washington to be the gate keeper, but they are doing it at a time when the Chevrolet Center is some $150,000 or so in the RED year to date.

I can just hear the board meeting now.

Board Chairman: "We are loosing money, the Steelhounds season is nearly over what are we going to do?"

Washington: "I got it lets turn away paying customers."

Mayor: "Great idea Herb, surely the tax payers won't mind kicking in a few extra bucks to cover the loss."

In the RED, misinformed people, and he was given the 2 million as a loan to put with the more than 4 million of his own cash that was spent in start up....1 million was chl franchise fee alone. If your going to post something for others to read at least know what your talking about...

What other start up costs could there be for this franchise besides the CHL's expansion fee? The arena was bought and paid for by the taxpayers. The ice plant is part of that... perhaps the boards and glass was Washington's to pay for. Other than that, there's no capital start up costs... everything else - merchandise, staffing, advertising, etc... is operational costs and should be covered by operational revenues.

And a word of advice... if you're going to come onto this board and blow a bunch of bluster, be prepared to deal with rebuttals from people who have FAR more experience in minor league sports operations than does Crazy Herb.

Wouldn't Jerseys(3 sets), pads, helmets, skates, tape, skate sharpeners, sticks, socks, goalie equipment, and other incidental items fall under start up costs?

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Despite posting a net operating loss of $183,000 for the month of January and the likelihood of posting another big loss for February, the city-owned Chevrolet Centre’s financial performance is not too far off the mark, coty officials say.

“Right now, they’re only off about $120,000 through a third of the year,” said Kyle Miasek, Youngstown’s deputy director of finance.

It doesn't matter that he put $4 million of his own with the $2 million loan. He still received a $2 million tax payer funded loan and the ability to prevent paying customers from using a building that the taxpayers spent $40 + million to construct.

Add to that the fact that the company operating the Chevrolet Centre owns the CHL.

Alot of things do such as advertisements tv and radio, billboards, but they dont see that even though some claim to have so much experience in sporting operations....

Just a note Marc what paid for the media blitz for the steelhounds some year before there were seats to put the asses in....ohh revenues..there were no revenues then...but you know plenty about sporting ops. besides Herb is a multi millionaire so I dont think hes lacking any business sense.

If Herb is a multi millionaire why did he need the taxpayers to fund 1/3 of his start up expenses?

And as for business sense, if he was smart he would be give his OK for the tournament based on a cut of proceeds adn welcome the NAHL tournament with open arms, now that the Steelhounds are eliminated from playing after March.

As for the loan, the city offered it to him, smart business by taking it......loan has nothing to do with his finances...

His ok, there was no offer for a cut of the proceeds doubt it would do anything at this point, as for the tournament not his responsibility its the Nahl's and Zoldans....

You aren't related to Clyde Smoll, are you?

Are you trying to tell me that Crazy Herb spent $2M on a media blitz before he sold a single season ticket or corporate sponsorhip? If he did, then he sure got ripped off, because the Steelhounds were underperforming off the ice before they ever started losing on the ice.

This ain't McDonalds, so you cannot tell me there were no revenues before the first puck dropped. If that's the case, then why ramp up well in advance of opening night? From the moment that team was awarded, it was selling season tickets and corporate sponsorships. These franchises are year-round operations. If they weren't out selling before the start of the season, then Herb is too stupid to know how to operate a hockey franchise.

Go look at the Colorado Eagles. My guess is they earned 80%-90% of their first season ticket and sponsorship revenues (and were break even or better for the entire first season) before they ever dropped a puck. Laredo and RGV were similarly successful. So don't tell me these teams can't be operated with positive cash flow from Day 1.

None of those other expenses previously listed would be considered capital expenses and thus significantly impact a start up. None of the player equipment items listed are durable goods, thus that and marketing is an operational expense. Skate sharpeners don't cost $2M.

Well, maybe they do in Y-town. Did Herb buy it from Mickey Monus?

Marc

OK y-town let me break this down for you.

Quote:

1) I never said that there was an offer for a cut of the proceeds.

What I said was that if Herb were smart he would give his OK for a cut of the proceeds. Something like this;

"Zoldan this is Herb, you give me XX% of your proceeds and I will unlock the doors at the Chevrolet Centre."

2) I never said the NAHL tournament was Herb's responsibility.

What I have said since my first post is that Herb is responsible for the NAHL tournament being shut out of the Chevrolet Centre. Something like this;

"I'm Herb damn-it and I have a clause in my lease and I get to decide if they play here or not and my answer is no even though we got waxed and won't be using the ice any more."

You see the difference is that you are doing a HIllary and Standing by Your Man and your team. I am trying to stand up for 5 teams of kids, their friends, parents and organizations. Hell I don't even know if my team is going to make it to the tournament. But my team being there or not isn't the point.

The point is that Herb, is going to "show them that they play by my rules or they don't play at all." He got his panties in a wad because he feels like someone didn't stroke him enough during the negotiations and now he is going to make them pay. Problem is that its not just Zoldan he is stepping on it is 125 Junior hockey players and all those associated with them. Real Big Man that Herb.

What has Glassrattler come to? An entire thread that does not mention Shane Warschaw, Tornado bad behavior, WF fans whining, Riley Gill not in school, somebody’s hand size, who wants to do or be done by someone (except somebody doing the entire NAHL – in some folks’ opinion). This is totally unGlassrattler-like - keep up the good work.

Most people talk up THEIR team. You seem to attack OTHER teams.
This whole thread started on a positive note, when all he was wishing for was the big tournament here in WF.
Then you went off on WF.

I'm done, there's no winning this type of exchange.
I'll just read your reply.

Peace bro.

I do get it,,,,,,,,,
Frist I was not attacking any team, I feel that some of the best hockey I have seen in awhile is when the Bandits, Cats and Nados play against each other. I just made a simple statement to stir shit up and get danny girl worked up and it worked. IF W.F. got a big tournament I would drive up and watch, I love the sport of hockey period. I was really picking on a few cats fans on the boards who like to bitch about how they lost because the ref's screwed them out of the game. Mr. Rather has this "I'm holy then thou thing" going on and he his nothing more then a piece of shit that hides behind his board name. If he was a real reporter like he claims then, why will he not tell us where he works so we can read his great writting skills first hand. He wont because he is not. All he can do is try to pick on me for my spelling and typing skills, who cares if you miss spell a word or type something wrong, shit happens move on with life. I will keep posting the way I want, and Danny Girl will keep trying to piss me and it wont happen beside this never gets old.

out Netty....
