Speaking of Homerism, you can find it everywhere.

Opening face off is at 7:05 p.m., fans this will be some of the best hockey you will see this season. Four points are on the line this weekend and only four points separate the Cats and the Tornado, so these two games will be huge for the Cats to perhaps take over the #1 spot in the NAHL South Division.

Even IF WF were to win both games they would be tied with the Tornado at 34 points. Not exactly taking over the lead is it? Especially considering the Bandits would have to loose at least one game to the Blues.
Not to mention that the Tornado would have one game in hand and the Bandits two.

That is the best you could come up with??? Save your fingers Dude. That was a wasted post. That is NOTHING compared to what Cheeks put on the TT website. There is no mention of "stealing" the #1 spot. No mention of a goal not allowed. No mention of a cheapshot. I could go on but what is the point. If you think that comparison is valid then your head is so far up your ass that it wouldn't make sense to you anyways.

Nuts4Brains,

Did you bother to read what Cheek's put on the website?

He said nothing about a goal not allowed, no mention of a cheapshot. Your right you could go on, making IceLane up.

I was simply pointing out that Homerism is found on every team's site. The quote from the WF site just happened to be the first one I read. I'm sure that if I were to look further I could have come up with more.

Quote:
From the TT Website: With a little over two minutes remaining in overtime Tornado defenseman #2 Mike Olmstead was blindsided by Bandits forward Aaron Lewicki, however, no call was made. Bandits forward Jason Weeks picked up the puck, skated around the back of the Tornado net and centered to a wide open Lewicki for the game-winner past Tornado goaltender #33 Troy Redmann, as Olmstead lay on the ice. Although the Tornado earned a point in the overtime loss, and got tremendous play again from Redmann, the loss will not settle easily knowing the goal should have never happened

Really??? Did YOU read what he wrote????

From the TT website.

Look folks, I think yall are missing what I am saying....I don't care about the homerism.....thats expected from every team......

What I am talking about is the fact that both Curtale and Cheeks (both Texas Tornado employees) have pretty much bashed game officials. You take what Curtale did Friday night, on the air, after being ejected from the game. He ripped that ref apart on the air. Called him an IDIOT. The next day, on the TT website (a NAHL team website, not a FAN website) said the goal should never have happened becasue of a NO-CALL.

Every other "professional" sports orginization in America would have done something about that. That is not called for. And if you say that this is ok, this aint a "professional" sports orginization, and its ok for coaches and team officials to get on the air and bash, call names or whatever, then you have serious problems.

I just have one question....If Brent Agrusa up in Helena would have done the same thing, would we have the same outcome?

I certainly have to agree with you there, bp... Any other hockey league, and they'd be calling asking for money! Laughing

I didn't hear the coaches' show, but when I read the article on the website, I thought it was pretty harsh and not what I expected from an official team website.

I understand what youre saying BP. Any other league, any other team and there would be some consequences. But, this is Curtale and the NAHL. Nothing is going to happen. As usual.

For the most part I would agree with BP's contention that most leagues come down hard on coaches, players etc that bad mouth the refs. Mark Cuban paid a small fortune a few years back for his ref bashing.

Maybe in this case the league recognizes the short comings of the refs. You would not have to look very far to find post after post on the old GR if it were available to find rather harsh bashing of the refs. Yes I realize these were by fans and not team officials but exist none the less.

Curtale said during the broadcast that the referees have been the subject of many discussions during meetings of leage officials. I agree that Tony crossed the line with his on-air comments. But, he is one of the more outspoken in the league and he may just be expressing what most of the other officials feel but do not express.

Right or wrong, any team, any coach bashing the refs in the media would normally get slapped down by the league. But, this is Curtale.

I know you dislike Curtale and all... But maybe it's actually the league.

Maybe the league is turning their back to this. Maybe they'd turn their back to another coach that did the same thing. I haven't heard of any fines for something like this in the 2 or so years I've been following the NAHL. Certainly somewhere in that time, a coach or team has said something negative about the league or it's refs.

Certainly not justifying Curtale's words, just saying maybe the league is being light-handed about the issue.

Of course, there's only one way to test it... We just gotta find another coach willing to call the ref an idiot to the media! Razz

Re: Ridiculous

I don't really think anybody cares about Cheeks and his homerism, I think the problem is really with Mr. Vortex and his obnoxious posts. If they are one in the same, it is kind of funny that he kept it a secret for so long. I was under the impression that Vortex had been spotted and was a greasy fat bastard! Come to think of it, it fits. I for one am glad Mr. Vortex got flushed out.

I think a few of the coaches did get called on the carpet for bashing the refs.

Vortex needs to be flushed down not flushed out

TC has a free pass on all things NAHL. Go figure...I am sure he has Santos number on the speed dial.

The refs all know who is the boss. Now, if I was on the crew that got slammed on the site, i'd be counting down the days until my next Nado game. Oh, yea...we would have fun. TC would have to retire to recover from his stroke.

I was at the NAHL Showcase when Texas played Fargo-Moorhead. I sat right below both announcers when I heard Cheeks call a fan a 'jerk-off'. That alone warrants some type of punishment. Never mind his classless follow-up when someone asked him "What gives you the right to say that?", and Cheeks replied, "Two rings, buddy! Two rings!" He doesn't even deserve to call an ACHA game.

It was great listening to other announcers at the Showcase. North Iowa's broadcaster was smooth and an absolute class act. The Phantoms broadcaster was knowledgable and energetic. And Fargo's guy did a great job also.

But Cheeks is a flat out embarrassment and can easily be replaced IMHO, which is a pretty sad statement given how long he's been around hockey.
