Robertson Cup Standings Update

Ok, with the newly discovered "tie rule" here is how things stand heading into the final day of the round robin.

Topeka - Topeka has secured a spot in Saturday's game at least with a 2-0 record and 4 points.

St Louis - St. Louis has also secured a spot in Saturday's game with a 1-0-1 record and 3 points.

Mahoning Valley - MV sits at 0-1-1 and 1 point.

Alexandria - Alexandria sits at 0-2 with 0 points.

If Topeka wins or ties tomorrow night against St. Louis, they will earn the #1 seed and advance to Sunday's game.

If St. Lois wins tomorrow, they will earn the #1 seed.

If Mahoning Valley wins or ties tomorrow, they will lock up the #2 or #3 seed and play in Saturday's game. They cannot get the #1 seed.

Alexandria has to win tomorrow's game to advance. A tie will leave them in the #4 slot. They also cannot take the top spot.

So basically, tonight's tie did not change anything unless there are also ties tomorrow. If there are no ties, the Topeka/St. Louis game is for the #1 seed, and the MV/Alexandria game is the elimination game.

Thanks for the update and the perspective, kev.

I'll keep my ranting over on the other thread. Wink

I just realized something else.

The tie tonight actually guaranteed that tie-breakers will not be needed to decide the seedings for this weekend's game.

It is now impossible for Topeka and St. Louis to end up tied, and it is impossible for MV and Alexandria to end up tied.

The only two teams that could possibly end up with a tied record would be MV and St. Louis. If that happens, the tiebreaker will only be used to determine which team is the #2 seed and which team is the #3 seed. (Not sure what that would even involve, but my guess is that the #2 seed gets to be the home team on Saturday.)

It is at least some consolation knowing that we are not going to have teams end the round robin with identical records and one team gets sent home because of some tiebreaker.

USA HOCKEY

During the play-offs and National Championships, if at the end of three periods the score is tied, the following shall take place:

1. Teams shall return to their dressing rooms and the ice shall be resurfaced.
2. Teams shall change ends.
3. A twenty minute period shall be played.
4. The game shall terminate upon a goal being scored and the team scoring declared the winner. If no goal is scored, the same procedure as above shall be repeated until a winner has been determined.

That rule applies to regular play off games, ONLY...

NOT the Robertson Cup round robin Championship series...

Ties can be attained in this round robin format...

No Bucket, looked in the wrong place:

National Tournament is under USA Hockey Junior Rules. Here is what their official guide for National Championships states:

I. Method of Determining the Champion
1. Competition

a. For Round Robin Competition
If two teams are tied at the end of a regulation game, each team shall be awarded one (1) point for the tie. The teams shall rest at their benches for a period of three (3) minutes, then continue to play a five (5) minute overtime period of sudden-victory competition. Teams shall not change ends. If no goal is scored, the game will be recorded as a tie. If a goal is scored, the winning team shall be awarded a bonus point for the victory, in an addition to the point already earned for the tie.

They were simply following the rules stated in the Junior Nationals Rule Book. Sometimes I wonder why so many get so upset over things they have no clue about. Question

Here is the link.
