Scott Hartnell hit on Alberts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZQDjqahgM0

Scott Hartnell crunched Andrew Alberts into the boards late in the second period. Just what do you think the Flyers think that B stands for?

Hartnell received a boarding major and game misconduct.

Alberts did not return to the game.

In a game that had potential to get nasty due to Randy Jones’ hit on Patrice Bergeron a month ago, and saw Jeremy Reich and Ben Eager fight just a few minutes into the game, things remained relatively tame after Hartnell’s hit.

Zdeno Chara said the team chose to only focus on the score:

“It’s something we talked about,” Chara said. “We probably ended up with some bruises, but we have two points and that’s the most important thing right now. It’s up to the league to address things like that.”

Hartnell said he was just finishing his check:

“I did not try to hurt him,” Hartnell explained. “There was no intent at all. I am not that type of player. If you look at all the games this year and past years, I finish my checks every time I have an opportunity.”

The Bruins won the game, 6-3.

Scott Hartnell is turning into the next Claude Lemieux. Borderline hits and a refusal to drop the gloves when challenged in response to the hits.

How many games do ya think he'll get? He had plenty of time to stop or adjust his line, but continued and hit his man high. Granted, he didn't lead with an elbow or forearm, but a hip check to the head against the boards can be just as devastating. I say 10 games. Partly because this sort of thing seems to be happening all too often when the Flyers are playing the Bruins( or anybody else, it seems).

TORONTO -- Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell has been suspended for two games, without pay, as a result of being assessed a game misconduct during NHL game #342 against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 26, the National Hockey League announced today.

"It appears that Mr. Hartnell was attempting to let up on delivering a check to an opponent that was in a vulnerable position," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "However, at the point of contact, he did deliver a blow to the head of Mr. Alberts that resulted in an injury."

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Hartnell will forfeit $44,919.78. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Hartnell was assessed a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct for a hit on Boston defenseman Andrew Alberts at 14:22 of the second period.

Hartnell will miss Wednesday's game at Carolina and Dec. 1 against Dallas. He will be eligible to return Dec. 5 at Minnesota.

The punishment wasn't sever enough. Should have been in the 5-10 game range.

It's getting to be too common place for a Flyer to be involved delivering an illegal hit. It's happened too many times already this season to say it's just a coincidence that a Flyer has been the one delivering the cheap shot.
