A brown noser? Right. Fangers and I have squared off plenty of times on other boards.
| Quote: | | Either way Marc does not have Class and should not spill the Beans before the Team does. |
Except that in the most recent case with Tony Curtale news I never disclosed the team. Additionally, I held off on his firing for nearly two weeks and didn't post on it until it was official, even after leaks elsewhere made it no longer a secret.
Look, the only way you'd know how many times I'd spill the beans is to know how much insider information I've got, and frankly, you have no clue. The ratio is probably around 5 bits of information for each item I post, and more often than not the info I post has been cleared for release from my source prior to posting.
What's the old axiom? Oh yeah, I've forgotten more about junior hockey than you'll ever know.
It won't make me any friends in sminny but here's an example. I know a lot of folks heard the rumors that Schneider was shopping the Express to a new city, but I had first-hand knowledge very early on. How? Because Schneider called me and we discussed potential markets in Michigan. For the record, we went though just about every arena/rink in the state *except* Brownstown, which I considered beneath a NAHL franchise and unworthy of discussion. Take that for what it's worth.
| Quote: | | I know its hard but it will soften. PS, his blog is down! |
My blog is not down, I've moved on to another project within this game. A project which, by the way, I've not made public because it involves having a formal working (as in getting checks from) relationship with a franchise (not in the NAHL, that much I will say). I don't have time to blog anymore.
If you want news/info about juniors in the USA, then I suggest you look up Ryan or perhaps Paul Shaheen (Research on Ice). USHR.com is okay too, I suppose, but is more focused on the East Coast.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get my ego back into its box. *DOWN!!! DOWN BOY!!! DOWN I SAY!!!*

marc; are you sure? you no nothing about any mn team anymore. who cares about schneider? who gives a flying fuck about who you talked to in the past. we dont care. move on.
i will give you more credit than ryan, you are better than him in the way you jump the gun when you need to tell secrets that have been told to you in confidence and you are way more evasive. you would be a good spy selling foreign secrets. ryan is on his way out. he loves to create new names on here and post bullshit.

Yeah, ok, I have sooooo much to gain from kissing his a$$...
As Marc stated, we've butted heads many a time over the years, but despite not agreeing with him on some topics, I respect his opinion because - unlike many on here - he's able to back it up with facts, data, and it's obvious he's put some thought into what he says. Anyone can post an opinion on a web site, but when that opinion is challenged, most can't seem to support it without resorting to name calling and behaviour I'd expect out of a ten year old.

Well, post the link to your blog so I can see how you handle it...what? You don't have one?...go figure...
...and what if the team never releases any info? or is very slow to do so? That happens alot, especially if the news is not good. I can understand folks not wanting to hear bad things about their home team, but blogs like Marc's and Ryan's serve a bigger audience and there are folks out there who want/need such information in a timely manner.
...now I'll sit back and see if anyone can engage in some meaningful discussion or will most reply with childish comebacks...

Relatively new poster this board but I was a lurker for a long time. Here and the USA board, where I don't post. It's a shame to see some moron trying to discredit what Marc has added to these boards as far as his inside information. Call everyone on here that supports him an ass kisser if you want because you don't know me and I don't know you so I won't lose any sleep over it. I appreciate what he brings when he posts and to concur with (someone, I've forgotten now), he has NEVER been inaccurate or wrong that I have seen. So, Marc, don't listen to the idiots that have nothing better to do than rip on your post because there are more of us that appreciate it. So, let the negative posts rain!!! Gimme all you've got!

Whoever TRW is hit the nail on the wood. Fangers not including you of course. You are simply a cool hockey guy. Information posted without verification from the source being released w/o their consent or based on rumors and hear say from a 3rd party ( like ryan is famous for when he voices his opinions) are just ways for these bloggers to feel important. Big words for small men. Both these guys USED to have meaningful Blogs written to provide actual information gleaned from the horses mouths BUT without their stupid opinions inevitably causing them to shut down . Keep to the facts and quit the rumors, name calling and b/s and junk. GROW UP.

Dave,
But it's not always possible to get confirmation from the source and to get consent - especially if it's bad news or something they want to keep quiet. Of course, rumors should be investigated to the extent that they can and bloggers need to be careful not to post those they can't get some level of comfort with.
I come into this discussion from the perspective of a parent of a player. When I first started venturing onto junior hockey sites it was my attempt to learn about the world of junior hockey. It evolved to trying to get information - good & bad - about teams as we tried to narrow down places where I'd feel comfortable with my son playing. No organization is perfect, but as a parent trying to get a feel for things it helps to know some of the bad things and see how teams dealt with them, find out if the bad issues continue to exist, etc. The info I received from both Marc & Ryan proved to be consistently accurate as it related to my questions, so I've grown to value thier input.
Did I take every rumor of bad things that was passed on at face value? No, but it became part of the bigger picture and made us look at things and ask questions that I may have missed otherwise. For example, the coaching issues in AL. For a parent, the fact they are on option #3 before they've even played a game and have an owner who appears to be way too hands on presents a potentially bad situation that most parents wouldn't want their player to have to be part of - unless no better options exist.
You obviously have an issue with Ryan, have no idea what it's all about - and no need/desire to know - but readers come to blogs from many perspectives and not everyone is going to come away from them with the same reaction. It's the nature of things, and no blogger will ever make everyone happy...

Fangers, the situation in Albert Lea is mute. They will have a good team and and well run organization. Take a look at the Bandits, they are better off and in the long run it will prove true.
Fangers, you are a smart hockey parent and have solid judgement as to how to separate the bull crud from the real information, even when posted by a long time blogger.
Good luck in the upcoming season.

It's called a rebuttal. You keep throwing out these claims (without specific examples) about how I conducted my blog, and I'm providing these examples to show that you are full of shit.
As for Sminny today, yeah, I don't know much, but it doesn't take a genius to realize the fanbase has become jaded and politicized, such that it may not adequately get behind the new franchise.

What things have I been told in confidence? Hell for the longest time someone in the NAHL was anonymously (willselfdestruct.com) forwarding me league conference call meeting agendas and minutes for the purpose of posting them. Most of the time I didn't forward them along to the blog or any forum. Maybe that's why I stopped getting them.
| Quote: | | Information posted without verification from the source being released w/o their consent or based on rumors and hear say from a 3rd party (like ryan is famous for when he voices his opinions) |
Okay, now you are mixing apples and oranges. News/information is NOT opinions. Do you not know the difference? You can have both in the same post on the same topic. That's called adding value. You may not agree with the opinion that goes with the news/info, but that goes with the territory.
Rarely did I post 3rd party info without backing it from another source. When I did it was from *very* trusted sources that have never burned me.
Again, when was I ever wrong about a fact posted on the blog?

Does anyone not in Minnesota know what this guy is talking about? Seriously, give some examples or shut the fuck up.
I have a very good sense of how important my blog was before I stopped writing, because I saw the positive feedback that I regularly received from players, parents, coaches, GMs, and owners.
Maybe you're just someone I pissed off. If so, then too bad... get in line. If a man is truly known by the enemies he's made, then I stand behind what I've written.
