Full Circle

I have to say the reading has been very interesting the last few weeks. But, I think things have come full circle. People are starting to talk possitive in support of the team.

In regard to decisions that have to be made, the founding contributors elected seven very capable members to the board. They will have to make many quick decisions relating to how the team will operate and who will be hired. Any organization has to have leadership that we all trust to do the right things.

I trust the leadership of this group. I have made a contribution and will continue to contribute to the organization to support the cause. We are all in this as a community. It is up to all of us to support the ideals of junior hockey to make the Express the classiest organization in the league.

Will everyone agree with decisions that the board makes? No. But, we have to respect and support the fact that they have stepped up to the plate with long hours and no pay to make this work. To them I say thank you for your committment and I pledge to help in any way that I can.

Let's all work as a team to lift the Express name back up to the rafters.

Albert Lea will be the classiest organization in Minnesota.

Plus we have a great city populated by nice people who work together and dont have the need to express ill will to others via the internet.

Good luck and see you all next season. Smile Smile TheChief

I think we should stay the Southern Minnesota Express until we get to play our playoff game at home. Then we should change to the Owatonna Express. Just a thought. E- Wink

I appreciate your enthusiasm for Albert Lea. I've spent alot of time driving by it. Right now the Thunder is in the honeymoon phase. Go through the kind of adversity Owatonna has with the Express and I think you'd find dissension among the masses also.

We need to all try to be united vs divided but as with any large group there are going to be disagreements. I believe all the people who contributed need to at least feel that their voice is important and that have a say and can participate whether or not their ideas are voted and accepted.

Given time I am sure things will improve.

Personally I have no problem with the leadership group making decisions on who to hire etc. But the logo is special and its our image so I think when the powers have selected the final logo candidates that the ENTIRE group gets the final say so in a special logo vote.

OK Folks, here's where advertising and promotion come in. Why have just the folks in the "group" decide? Put an ad in the Owatonna People's Press with the finalists for a new logo, and let the City of Owatonna decide by mailing in their vote, with their entry making eligible for a prize. You get the logo out to the public. You have the logo unveiling ceremony with T-Shirts, hats and pucks available for sale immediately afterwards. The entries will have names on them, there's your mailing list. Seize the moment!!!!

Albert Lea Thunder will be the team name down there. Possibly there mayb be a team in the Twin Cities. After being a Vulcans fan, I can attest that it'll be tough to drum up interest in Junior Hockey up there.

With the new team in Albert Lea and Iowa and possibly the Twins, it seems kinda too much Jr A hockey and too close. I wonder how it will affect the attendance (not including any games with the above teams)? Anyone know if prices are going down on the tickets? I hope so, cause my wallet has gotten kinda thin as of late.

We should have our own blog. NOT like the one last year which was just childish and sick and probably caused more harm here than fully yet to be realized come the new season, but more along the lines of a simple one that has spirit, class and positive posts! Thoughts? Rovot

It may actually help. You are pretty much having to draw fans from your own town and adjacent cities. It may help in having cities close enough where going to away games is very possible and quite likely. I'm not sure which part of the Twin Cities they think they can make it work in. The Vulcans tried Minneapolis, Columbia Heights, and Bloomington with no luck.

As far as wallets, get in line, I think our great economy has everyones wallet feeling thinner by the day.

Start one, doesn't take a rocket scientist to get one going.

Indeed, not a rocket scientist but someone without emotional attachment and a better sense of pride for our entire community not just the close knit hockey group followers. Rovot
