Travis on the News

I watch several different news channels tonight and all 3 had the story of Travis being hurt last night. Coach said Blaznek will move to center and Wiebe will be rw on the first line. Duda said it will be hard to play without Travis Sad

And the footage they showed on 10 and 12 was not from last nights game. It was from a couple of weeks ago. Showed Travis scoring twice.

Unless he decides to retire because he feels the penalty to Fleck by the league is not enough. Which the Wichita Eagle quoted him saying he would do Cry

I have always respected Clayton, both as a person and player in this league. However, for him to try to blackmail the league into issuing a more severe penalty to Fleck by his threat to retire is wrong. The league will review the tape and issue what they feel is needed. It may not be what you Thunder fans feel is correct; but, that's the way the puck bounces. We got screwed with the Ted Crowley deal last season.

I also disagree with French's comment about "marquee players deserve a certain amount of protection". I've seen Don Parsons pummelled around the rink on numerous occasions without the benefit of "protection" from the officials. Protection for a team's marquee player/s should come on the ice from his fellow players, not the league or the officials.

Get a grip and quit your whinning!

i can agree with your post to an extent. i could agree if this had been a one time thing. but fleck has REPEADEDLY cheapshotted guys and has caused numerous injuries. i think if they give fleck a severe enough punishement he may think twice about doing it in the future.

You call it blackmail..I'll call it wanting a fair shake on this deal. You didn't see the hit (I did)....don't come on hear and try to compare a guy getting pummelled around the rink and a blatant cheap shot to a guys head!!! I do agree that "protection" for a teams marquee players should come from his teammates on the ice.....but French's comments have some validity.....marquee players in every professional sports league are somewhat 'protected" or treated differently because of their reputation.....thats just the way it is.

Agreed. I'm very familiar with Fleck and his atics on the ice. I think the best punishment for him would be for him to have to play against the Thunder again. Let the Thunder players handle it!

Let me clarify my comments for you. When I say "pummelled" I DO mean cheap shots to the body, with sticks and without. I DO mean slew-footing. I DO mean blind checks from behind. I can go on; but, hopefully you get the point.

I get your point....I take issue with you comparing that to what happened in Wichita Tuesday night. I see crap like you describe almost every hockey game I attend or watch on TV....the incident I am refering to goes way beyond that, no matter how the CHL sees it or what punishment they hand down.....IMHO Fleck was trying to take Clayton out....it has been mentioned on here before, that had he wanted to, Fleck had the opportunity to lay a clean check on Clayton which probably would have taken Clayton to the ice and might have even caused Clayton to miss a shift or two, but instead Fleck went high with his elbow.....that is the main reason I am so upset about the whole thing....

sad thing is if we tried that the ref would just immediately throw all our guys out. most of the calls he made after the incident were totally bogus, just him trying to get a handle on the game.

I agree with your post but you can't say that Memphis has not been guilty of the same things.....You could not be more right about the team being responsible for protecting there top-lines or anyone for that matter...If you want to see how it's done just take a look at Colorado....If Clayton wants to retire over this to bad......

I don't know that most of the calls were bogus. We were so rattled we were just not using our heads. However, who would we have "handle it on the ice"? This is a serious weakness for our team. We can't protect our own "marquee players". And until we have players that can handle it on the ice teams in the league is going to capitalize on this!

the slash call on liebel wasnt bogus?? that was so lame just the ref trying to show he could get a handle on the game. how can he call that weak slash on liebel on the faceoff no less and not call dudas flying tackle on the okc player in the crease late in the game?
nooooooo consistancy!

i agree we didnt play smart the rest of the game. but what do you expect the guys to do when 1 of the best players just left on a stretcher??? i just wish the linesman would have let tetrault get to fleck!

IF someone beat the living shit out of him or laid him out with a good hit, he would think twice a lot more.
