I noticed there were some D1 players drafted. Isn't that going backwards?

The two up top? Foreny and Ellingson?

Well remember if you're going to transfer schools the NCAA makes you sit out an entire year. It's assumed that Forney and Ellingson want out of their respective schools and seeing as they have some junior eligibility left -- they can spend it while waiting for their transfer.

Forney has struggled with shoulder problems and limited ice time and Ellingson I believe didn't even see a minute last year. Sounds kind of whiny from a Freshman to expect minutes but its his future after all.

Forney could end up back with UND, but him and Hakstol both felt it was in his best interest to go to the USHL for a year to get some ice time.

Can anyone give me a scouting report on Austin Mattson?

Hmm at least that's good that there's that kind of understanding. Sort of like the situation with Luke Lucyk then?

As for Mattson, we unfortunately never got to see Marquette...one of the major downers in this league. But 19 points and trusted to play 57 games as a 91 is pretty good I guess.

youngest kid we had on the roster was 89. Yippie.

Hmm ok I just saw on your blog the thing about Forney. That's good. Never want to see kids leave on bad terms.

Though I do love Cedar Rapids recap of the draft here http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080514/SPORTS/474301767&SearchID=73317834507558

The Riders' top Entry Draft pick was Rowe, 19, who played last season for the NAHL's St. Louis Jr. Blues.

I guess it is an easy mistake to make but wrong league and level.
