Well, Be Damned

Brett Hull is coming to town. He'll be here for next Tuesday's game vs. Wasilla.

100 bones minus 50 dollar co-payment at the ER, minus Bail Money......

I wouldnt come out very well on that.
But I would get to go home looking like I had been playing in a Hockey Game!

I'll get back with ya....

Come in for the game. It will be Brett's first. Has Modo made any of the 'Nado's games?

That's a Tuesday night game, right? I couldn't do that since my bedtime during the week is earlier than most retirees living in Florida.

You'll have to tell me how it goes.

Mikey Mo has been to a couple of games (from what I hear). I don't pay that close attention but only because I pay no attention to Mo. Cool

I have not seen Mike at any of the games. I think he feels he is to good to be seen at any game other than the Stars. I have seen Turco, Boucher, Arnott, Downey, Morrow, Messier, Ludwig and a few others as well.

Yeah, its a Tuesday nite. I figured with your work sked you wouldn't be able to make it. I'm hoping for a good turn-out. Its about time for him to come and watch the team that he co-owns play.

No joke. I don't think he's ever seen a game at the barn. Not even last year when there was no NHL. But, hey, at least he's making it now. Got his autograph at Minton's two years ago during pre-season push.

Why are you ripping on Modano? Hull has retired so maybe he has a little more time. Why would Modano come to a game? He wouldn't be able to watch it due to all the people wanting his autograph the whole time.

You're right...maybe I should challenge F5 to fisticuffs at the next home game.

Don't think you'd win the battle with F5. Not ripping on Modano, just a fact. When the NHL wasn't playing he could have come to a game. Other players do and security is great at keeping people away. I guess it's just what comes with the territory of being a well known and liked hockey player. He did play in the Pros vs. Prospect game last year and seemed to really enjoy himself.

Hull in town to see Bandits
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 9:18 AM CST

By LOUIE AVERY
Texarkana Gazette

Wasilla brings a new look to Texarkana and Bandits coach Jon Cooper has mixed feelings going into tonight’s game at the Four States Fairgrounds Entertainment Center.

Face off tonight is 7:05 and NHL star Brett Hull will be in attendance.

Hull is one of the Bandits’ owners and he will be auctioning off six of his old NHL jerseys tonight.

The Wasilla franchise moved to Alaska this year after playing several seasons in Springfield, Mo.

“They’ve got a lot of veterans and some good free agents,” Cooper said. “They’re playing around .500 in a tough division. At the same time I’m glad we’re getting to play somebody outside our division. It’s good to play outside our division.”

Texarkana (24-10-2) trails front-running Texas by seven points going into this week’s league play, but could cut that deficit to three points with wins over the Spirit tonight and Thursday night. The Bandits also play at home Saturday night against Wichita Falls.

The Bandits will have all-star goaltender Riley Gill back, who missed the last five games because of a league rule that required him to be attending college classes in order to be eligible. Gill’s record this year is 19-6-1 and he’s allowing only 2.21 goals per game.

Wasilla (20-24-0) will have veteran Andrew Volkening in goal.

The Bandits have lost forward Jason Price for the next two months. Price, Texarkana’s second all-time leading score behind Anthony Becker, had wrist surgery last week. Price has 19 points this season with five goals and 14 assists.

Cooper also announced a new addition to the team.

Defenseman Dillon Rioux left the University of Connecticut to join the Bandits.

“We took a major step backwards the last couple of weeks,” Cooper said. “We worked so hard to get in first place and then something happened.

“We’ve really got to improve our play at home. It seems like we’ve lost our focus on our home ice.”

Despite their recent slump the Bandits still rank among the top scoring teams in the NAHL.

Becker ranks among the league leaders with 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points. Team captain Casey Haines has 37 points and Aaron Lewicki 33 points.

Wasilla’s leading scorer is David Gault with 15 goals and 17 assists. Mike Glaesmer and Andy Sternberg have scored 20 points each.

Who knows? With Hull now taking up office space in the Stars' organization maybe he might make it to a few more games in the Barn.

He talked about that game in the radio interview he gave here. He's real excited about it, since he missed last year.
